Six New Recipes to Try this Colombus Day Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clark chapter.

At Clark, they extend Fall Break through the Tuesday of Colombus Day Weekend, and for me, Fall Break always makes me want to curl up under a blanket, pull on that old high school sweatshirt and eat freshly baked goodies. Here are six incredible recipes to try this Fall Break.

Croissants

This one is hard, no doubt about it, but if you give it enough time and take your time, then you’ll have incredible (and impressive!) treats.

Check out the recipe here and just think about all of that flaky, buttery goodness. Picture dipping your croissant in chocolate. I bet once you perfect baking them, you’ll even be able to say the word wth confidence.

Ginger Cookies

Personally, I’m a sucker for ginger but don’t tend to like my cookies to require gnawing. Check out this recipe for a change from the traditional.

Pumpkin Bars

I’ve baked bread from scratch, but I have never baked a pie. Something about it just seems remarkably intimidating. Dessert bars are a great choice for those of us who may be pie-phobic. Try these Pumpkin Bars to get all of that PSL flavor in individual sized, freezable portions.

Cookies!

If Pumpkin isn’t your thing, you can still embrace fall flavor by using non-traditional ingredients, like cranberry. Try these yummy cookies and make sure to keep a slice of bread in the container when your store them so that they stay soft and yummy (tip courtesy of my grandmother).

Apple Pie Taquitos

Allow yourself to embrace your ridiculous pinterest loving nature. Make that goofy fusion recipe. Start with this one because, as I said before, the best pie is not a pie.

Bread

I love making bread. There is something immensely therapeutic about kneading dough, letting it rise, shaping it, and watching it bake, especially when it’s chilly out. My favorite loaves that I have ever made have always been enriched doughs, braided, with yummy fillings. Try this Braided Nutella bread for your entry into bread. Trust me, it’s easier than Paul Hollywood makes it seem. Just be patient.

If baking isn’t your thing, that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a warm blanket, fuzzy socks, and Halloween movies on TV. Take care of yourself this Fall Break and enjoy the much needed rest.
