Emerson has always been a chapter that liked to take risks, so emailing the chapter network to spotlight different Her Campus Chapters at other schools was no different. One of the schools that we have decided we wanted to introduce to you, is the chapter at the University of North Texas. The HC UNT chapter was founded in February of 2016, and currently, their chapter is about 90 members strong!

HC UNT is run by senior digital and print journalism major Scotlyn Ogle, who heads the chapter as both President and Editor-in-Chief. The chapter has two event coordinators, Sadie Baxter and Jasmine Sanders. Sadie is a senior merchandising and digital retailing major, while Jasmine is a junior broadcast journalism major. The chapter’s PR coordinator is Alejandra “BB” Balbuena, who is a sophomore public relations and spanish major. The chapter also has a Social Media Chair, Ayron Walker, who is a sophomore creative writing and journalism major.  Alaisha Sells, a senior broadcast journalism major, is the team’s secretary. Lastly, the executive board is completed by Ashli Hart, a junior integrative studies major, who acts as the chapter’s Philanthropy Chair.

After getting to know the executive board, we asked what the team’s favorite articles were. For features, the team selected two pieces. The first of which was Campus Correspondent Scotlyn’s piece on feminism, entitled “The ‘F’ Word.” Additionally, the team highlighted Kaitlyn Ingram’s piece on Birth Control entitled “An Open Letter to the Stigma Around Birth Control and Women’s Sexuality.” Both of which are amazing articles and definitely warrant a read through at least once. In terms of profiles, the chapter decided to choose Destini Watts’ article regarding an event the chapter put on. Destini’s article profiled one of the Blogger Panelists from the dinner, so if you are interested in reading it, you can find the article here

Speaking of events that HC UNT has put on, we wanted to know more about their Blogger’s Dinner! They held this event in the spring, and it hosted local bloggers and youtubers who came in to speak about how they were growing their following online! The team also loves to focus on planning school-wide events, and some of their favorites include their “Booty for Bae” twerk class and their Pink Table Talk lecture series, which that are just starting up and are really excited about! They have a ton of events lined up, so keep an eye out for events like their His VS. Her event. Moral of the story is that if you are hanging around UNT any time soon, be sure to check out one of the chapter’s events!

With all the talk of events, we also wanted to know what their favorite memory was. CC Scotlyn noted that her personal favorite was the 2018 retreat they went on. She explained that they had so much fun as a team playing games, cooking, and doing secret santa! She said that it made them all feel much closer as a team, which is the part she loved the best. Scotlyn also explained that in terms of the chapter’s goals for this semester, they are really hoping to increase their ranking from a Diamond level to an Elite level chapter.

When we asked a little more about the school itself, Scotlyn explained that UNT is known for their Vegan Cafeteria, Mean Greens. She also boasted about how their official mascot is technically the Eagle, but the unofficial mascot is the albino squirrels they are all obsessed with. Finally, Scotlyn noted that Dr. Phil is one of the schools most noteworthy alumni, so if you like albino squirrels and Dr. Phil, you’re probably in the right place at UNT. However, despite all of the features UNT has to offer, the HC UNT chapter is one of the best. Scotlyn explained to us that HC UNT is “a sisterhood––these girls will support you no matter what challenge you are taking on, and will be willing to be by your side the entire journey!”  If your are looking for a chapter that describes themselves as Bold, Strong, and Unique, then you have come to the right place with HC UNT.

If you are looking to get involved with HC UNT, you can find them on UNT’s OrgSync page, or on any of their social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Youtube).  Additionally, you can find them at any of the events that they are hosting on campus like their mixers or informational events throughout the year. These are geared toward meeting prospective new members, so it is the perfect place to go to get involved and meet the team!

Bonus Questions:

TS: What Hogwarts house does your chapter most identify with?

SO: This is a tough one. I think the great thing about our chapter is we aren’t just one single “house” but instead are all different ones. That’s what makes us work.

TS: If your chapter could be described with one animal, what would that animal be and why?  SO: Albino Squirrel, just because.

TS: Is your chapter team Edward or Team Jacob?  Or for daring, Team Kristen Stewart as a person?

SO: I’d like to think we are Team Edward, but I bet if we took a poll, there would be a lot of closeted Team Jacob fans.

TS: Is your chapter more cat people or dog people?

SO: Does both count? But again, I’m sure the collective answer would be dogs. (TS: Of course both counts!!!! We LOVE people who love all animals)

TS: Does your chapter identify more with beaches or lakes?

SO: Beaches
