The middle of the semester means only one thing: the midterm season is in full swing. Here are some helpful study tips that I have picked up since this semester. These tips have helped decrease some stress that builds up during this time of year!

1. Ask Questions in Class!

I know this step seems like it won’t do much, but it really does! This semester I’m taking Precalculus and needless to say, I am confused nearly 90% of the time! Typically, when I am confused about any topic in class I like to take matters into my own hands and figure out the solution on my own. I would rather look confused in class then ask a question and feel “stupid” when asking. However, I have found that when I try to find an answer on my own, I spend way more time figuring out solutions instead of studying the material! It has taken a lot of courage to ask questions in class but it has been SO worth it! I have even found that some of my classmates have the same question too but they did not ask the Professor. So, really you’re doing everyone a favor by asking questions.

2. Slow and Steady Pace!

I do not know about you guys, but I tend to study SO slow! In all honesty, it works well for me. I try to study material a few days in advance so I am not left cramming the night before (don’t worry, I’m still guilty of this sometimes). This tip really helps with my heavy-duty classes like philosophy! The material is so dense and there is NO way I am able to cram the night before. I had a midterm in that class last month and I studied a week before the test. I did a section of the study guide for three days and by that time I was done! I spent the last two days looking over the study guide and other extra materials that we went over in class.

3. Make A Study Group!

This is a great alternative if you do not like asking questions in class! Earlier this semester I was too afraid to ask questions in Precalculus because my Professor intimidated me. So I ended up making a few friends in the class and created a study group! This tactic helped me stay focused while doing homework. It is so easy for me to lose focus when I am working on homework for a class I do not enjoy. Studying with friends helps lighten the mood and you are able to help each other out!

4. Work in a Positive Environment!

This is probably my favorite way to study! I am not the biggest fan of libraries since the work environment is quiet and even sometimes too depressing for my liking, so I like to study at coffee shops! The environment is freeing and they always have great music playing in the background. I love going to a local coffee shop around my school called Five07! They have amazing avocado toast and smoothies which helps me stay motivated while I am working on my calc homework. I recommend grabbing a friend and trying this out!

5. Stay Motivated!

The semester is coming to a close soon, but that only means that all of us need to stay motivated! If no one has told you yet, you are doing amazing! Just keep pushing a little harder and a little further. 2019 is almost over, so finish off strong! You have already made it to college, so show everyone how much your hard work has paid off!

Just like the picture says, remember why you started college in the first place! I hope these tips helped make studying for your midterms a little easier!
