Thanksgiving is next week, which means it’s time to sound the alarms as your favorite family members are coming into town! An entire week away from classes and the stress of finals doesn’t need to start until after Thanksgiving is over. As we enjoy this time of relaxation, I’m pretty sure we can all agree that the best part of Thanksgiving is the food. Here is my favorite apple pie recipe that is a hit every holiday season.
- Warm and Cozy Apple Pie
-
For the crust:
I like to use the pre-rolled crust available at the grocery store. It’s faster to prepare and makes your baking time shorter. Plus, it tastes just the same as handmade crust.
For the Filling:
10 Granny Smith Apples – cored, peeled, and thinly sliced
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Topping:
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup all-purpose flour
⅔ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
Steps:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Roll the crust into your pie dish.
In a large bowl, toss filling ingredients. Pour into the pie dish, mounding apples toward the center. The more apples the better!
In a medium bowl, mix butter, 1 cup flour, and brown sugar until a crumble forms. Sprinkle evenly over the top of the pie.
Cover with second pie crust. Cut four small holes in the top of the pie.
Sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar over the top of the pie.
Bake until golden brown (about 40 to 55 minutes).
Take out the pie and cool. Enjoy!
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Enjoy this time with your family and a well-needed break from school!
