Here’s How You Can Get a Head Start on Holiday Shopping

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

It’s “the most wonderful time of year,” they say. While that may be true, the holiday season can cause a lot of unwanted, unneeded stress. Unfortunately for us college students, we are faced with dreaded finals right before the holiday season and the much-needed winter break.

In the midst of preparing for winter break, finals, and the upcoming holidays, we are also faced with the gift-giving process. We have to find the perfect gift, at the perfect price, in the perfect amount of time. It’s challenging and stressful. Here are some ways to get ahead on your shopping this holiday season and find an awesome gift for cherished friends and family.

Make a List

Seriously, make a list. I know it sounds cheesy, but this a huge help in planning who to shop for and what to actually buy. Start out with the people you’d like to shop for. Your list can be however short or long you’d like to make it. This is a technique that helps you get organized and ensures you find something for everyone you want to shop for.

Consider What Each Person Would Like

Figuring out what to give someone can be challenging. You know you have to get them something but you don’t know what. It’s easy to push the shopping aside since you don’t know what to purchase. But luckily for you, there’s a ton of gift ideas on the internet. Think about it in your spare time so you aren’t’ rushing around last minute to figure out what to give as a gift. When you decide, add the gift you will give next to each person’s name on your list.

Shop Online

Let’s say you know exactly what you want to get the people you are shopping for. Sometimes, there’s just no time to go to the store and wait in long lines that come with the holiday season. Shopping online is a great way to cut out travel time and wait times, and you can shop from the comfort of your bed.

Delegate Time for Shopping

Even with the convenience of online shopping, shopping for holiday presents is time-consuming. You want the gift to be thoughtful, and you want to put effort into the gift. Give yourself a block of time to dedicate to holiday shopping. That way, you have the time to search for the perfect gift.

Be Proactive

Gifts are on your mind, so do something about it! We get lost in how much time we think we have to purchase all the gifts we have to get for our loved ones. Next thing you know, it’s a week before we have to give gifts and we haven’t made any purchases yet. You don’t want to be stuck right before the holidays scrambling to buy gifts for your loved ones. When you’re done reading this, go make your list, consider what they will like, delegate time for shopping, search for gifts online, and be proactive!

Overall, stay organized. It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of finals, but staying organized will help you stay calm while shopping for your loved ones and studying for finals. Have fun. The holidays are a time to spend with friends and family. They’re supposed to be enjoyable, especially after a long, hard semester.

Relax, breathe, and go get those special gifts for the ones you love!
