Finals—-a crazy, stressful time that happens biannually in the college student’s life. For most of us, winter break is eons away, barely a blip on the horizon. It is the one thought we hold onto to get us through this dreary, grueling time.
Typically, for me at least, once winter break hits I hibernate in my room for a few days to recover from studying and when I emerge I don’t really know what to do with myself.
This winter break I encourage you to create a bucket list or compilation of goals you want to accomplish. These goals don’t need to be serious: just a few simple ideas of what you want to do with your time.
In college, students aren’t going back to a year long class like they did in high school. With no homework to complete for the next semester you have free reign of how you control your time.
I suggest dividing your goals into academic, career, hobbies, and pleasure. As a sample I’ll show you my list:
To Do Over Holidays: Academic You have already spent the whole semester on Academics—give yourself a break! 1 or 2 goals re sufficient in this category -Create degree plan (Since I am a Sophomore I need to start think about my four your year plan and what I am going to take each semester. If you are further along in your studies you could just follow up and see that you are on track) -Apply for a Spring Break Trip (I want to do a trip through my school, you could start looking into spring break & that could count for academic ).
Career A few goals in the career section is great for making money over the holidays and looking at resume boosters for the Spring and Summer -Babysit (If you babysat in high school I encourage you to text some of those families and see if they need you! This is a great way to make extra cash while you don’t have to deal with school). -Look into summer/spring internships
Pleasure Now comes the fun part! This list should be extensive!!! For example some of mine are: -Binge watch the entire 3rd season of the crown -Reread a few books of Harry Potter -Get lunch/coffee with old friends -Walk my dog everyday
Hobbies Hobbies is an extension of pleasure, but it really centers in and focuses on things you like to do: -Take tennis/golf lessons -Do the jingle bell run -Work on my writing
Even if you don’t accomplish all of this, keeping a list will help you productive and never bored. Once January comes around you can look back at your list and see all you participated in. The long breaks of college can be fun!
