Why am I crying? I’m not even sad. What’s happening? WHY AM I CRYING? Too many times has that time of the month come rolling around, and every single time I just don’t know how to deal. Well, at least not before.
I mean I tried so many things: savoring the cravings and eating that delicious piece of chocolate (despite the inevitable pimples), popping that Advil quicker than the A-train going South, or just simply giving into the pain of the cramps and planning my funeral.
That’s not even the worst of it. There’s the bloatedness, the weight gain, the acne, the annoying sensitivity of your breasts, the nausea, and so much more. All this because I didn’t get pregnant this month? Jeesh, if that’s the cost, then I might as well get something out of it, but sadly I can’t. But, you can definitely make the most of it.
Over the years, I’ve picked up some tricks and tips that help me deal, and I’m glad I did, after much trial and error – believe me. Now, like a wise sage in olden times, I am here to impart wisdom upon you.
Nausea
Soup, any kind of soup, as long as it’s warm and tasty. You’d think feeling like you’re going to throw up, and eating soup would make you just want to throw up, but surprisingly it calms you down and you get some nutrients in the process. Also, usually when you’re nauseous it means you under-ate and you’re dehydrated, so as long as you get some fulfilling food in your system, then you are aces.
Breast Sensitivity
Honestly, it’s just your body being weird and doing it’s hormonal thing, but not wearing a bra and wearing loose shirts help a lot. Not adding anymore unneeded pressure onto your breasts helps, trust.
Bloatedness
LOTS OF WATER. STAY HYDRATED. Also, avoid salty foods, it makes you retain the wrong kinds of water in your system.
Mood Swings
Can’t help you there, but when I’m acting exceptionally angry, I give in to the cravings, it relaxes me to the max.
Cravings
We all got some different cravings, but personally for me, I try to avoid some foods, even if my cravings demand it. Spicy foods and acidic foods like soda and citrus, I find tend to exacerbate the already painful cramps. Eggs and anything dairy, is a no! They can make you constipated or just make your bodily crime scene start to smell. Anything else should be fair game, especially chocolate. Chocolate is just sweet bliss. It calms the nerves and eases the pain, in ways I have no clue how.
Cramps
Two words, heat and pressure. God knows, whenever I step out into the cold, I immediately feel like a hammer hit me in the crotch. Cold is out, and pressure, sweet, sweet pressure, is in. Nothing like a big pillow between your legs to soften the blow that is menstrual cramps.
