Whether you’re working from home, doing online classes, or just chilling–it’s very easy to get bored when you can’t leave your house. And if you are leaving your house to go to places other than the grocery store or a family member’s house–you shouldn’t be! Coronavirus is serious, and it’s only going to get better if we all stay home. And I know not being able to leave your house for an indefinite amount of time isn’t ideal, but there’s a lot of things you can do to make the time go by faster. I’ve compiled a list of 8 fun things to do while stuck at home!

Go on Walks

One of the best things you can do right now is going on walks around your neighborhood! And if you have a dog or cat – take them with you (if they’re like my dog, they’ll be so happy)!! Outdoor walks are a great way to get fresh air, sunlight, and exercise – things that will make you feel so much better after being indoors for hours on end. If you’re like me, I’m used to walking miles every day around campus. And while there’s no exact substitute for that, this is the closest thing.

2. Watch Movies

Watching movies is probably my favorite thing to do during this time! I love movies but didn’t get to watch them much while on campus because I was so busy. But now that I don’t have any activities to go to, I have time. If you want suggestions on some great movies to watch – check out my article titled “10 Movies You Must Watch This 2020!” – a lot of my favorites are on there. Also, if there was a movie you were excited to see in theaters, you can probably stream it! Many films that were supposed to come out in theaters during this time are being released via a streaming site.

Zoom or FaceTime With Your Friends

Another great thing to do is Zoom or FaceTime with your friends! It stinks that we can’t all see each other during this time, but Zoom and FaceTime help. Could you imagine being stuck in your house for an indefinite amount of time before technology? It would be so hard. My sorority and tap group have done Zoom calls, and I’ve FaceTimed with some of my friends – it makes online school so much better! Like obviously, it’s no substitute for real school, but still being able to talk to your friends via Zoom and FaceTime helps so much.

If You Can Sew, Make Masks

Right now, there is a shortage of medical masks, and if you can sew, you can help! Unfortunately, I can’t sew, but if I could, I would totally be making these masks. Not only is it something fun to do, but it is so helpful to the medical community during this stressful time. Joann’s website is giving away free material to make these masks, and they have instructions on how to make them! You can also click on the picture above for other instructions on how to make them from an account I follow on Instagram!

Do a Puzzle

I feel like every family has at least one puzzle somewhere in their house that they haven’t done – and now is the perfect time to do it! My sister pulled out a puzzle of Donald Duck that we hadn’t done before, and we completed it in less than a week! Puzzles are a lot of fun and something that you can work on for a little bit and then come back to later.

Start a New TV Series

Right now is the perfect time to start a new TV series! I’m not an expert on TV shows, because I usually don’t have much time to watch things and when I do I prefer movies, but I will recommend some of the TV shows that I have watched! I’ve only watched a few Netflix series, but my favorites are Gossip Girl and Stranger Things. My mom and I are also in the middle of Gilmore Girls, and it’s so good – I highly recommend! My favorite TV show that is currently on is This is Us. My family has been watching it since it came out and we love it! You can watch it on NBC or Hulu. Another idea is to watch your favorite childhood TV shows on Disney Plus if you have it! I’ve been slowly watching Hannah Montana since Disney Plus came out, and my sister and I recently started The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. They’re as good as I remember.

Read a Book

Now is a perfect time to read that book you’ve wanted to read for a while! Or if you’re like me, you have many books you’ve wanted to read for a while. And if you need a suggestion of a book to read – read The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton. I recommend that one because it’s one of my favorites and not many people I know have read it. If you need another reason to read it – Edith Wharton was the first woman to win a Pulitzer Prize, and she won it for this book!

Learn a New Hobby

My last suggestion for something to do while stuck at home is to learn a new hobby! I haven’t done this yet, but probably will soon! There are so many hobbies to choose from, like cooking, painting, drawing, dancing, singing, running, writing, playing a sport, etc. If there’s a hobby you’ve always wanted to learn – now is the time!

I hope these suggestions relieve you from your boredom, at least a little bit! I know it’s hard not to leave your house, but hopefully, these activities will make it a little bit easier! And just think, if we stay positive and try to keep ourselves busy, we will be able to leave our houses before we know it!
