Going through a breakup is painful. Sometimes you just feel like curling up on your bed and watching hours of TV. All you want to do is be sad and mourn your relationship, but sometimes it is good to watch some movies to make you laugh and feel genuinely happy. Here are some movie ideas to make you feel even a little better after a breakup:

Mamma Mia!

If you want to get your mind off your ex, what is better than a musical with Meryl Streep and ABBA music? Plus, it is inspiring because Donna (played by Meryl Streep) is an independent woman despite her past three relationships who suddenly are invited to her daughter’s wedding.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin

This movie will literally make you roll off your bed from laughing too hard. Needless to say, the movie is about a 40-year-old virgin named Andy and his hilarious work friends who attempt to set him up with girls, setting Andy off on a wild journey. It also features many famous actors including Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

If you thought your relationship ended badly, imagine being stuck on an island with your ex and her new boyfriend like Peter (Jason Segel) was. Starring Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis, this movie is sure to take your mind off of your breakup and just have a little laugh.

How To Be Single

After just getting out of a breakup you may be wondering, “How do I be single again?”. Well, this movie is here to show you that it is okay and more fun to be single. Rebel Wilson shows Dakota Johnson how to have fun in New York City by helping her party and explore the streets.

Legally Blonde

Did your boyfriend break up with you because you were “too blond”? Well, Elle Woods can relate, but her determination to get him back actually involved her going to Harvard Law School. This movie will be a subtle reminder to you that you are a smart and independent woman and you do not need a man to succeed!

Bridesmaids

Two words: food poisoning. If you ever watch Bridesmaids, you will know what I mean by that. This movie shows what it is like to be single and also be the maid of honor at your best friend’s wedding. It will make you feel like your life isn’t as big as a mess as Annie’s (Kristen Wiig) is.

To All The Boys I Loved Before

Peter Kavinsky will show you what a real man is like. Okay, maybe I am overexaggerating a bit, but this movie will definitely make you believe in love again!

Sex and The City

Ever dreamed of becoming a fabulous column writer in New York City, having an endless supply of heels and being blessed with 3 funny best friends? Carrie Bradshaw has got it all.

Bridget Jones’s Diary

This funny, quintessential rom com will make you smile. In this movie, Bridget Jones decides to start keeping a diary of her life where she focuses on all the things she wishes to happen in her life. Bridget Jones’s Diary is a reinterpretation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, where two men attempt to vie for Bridget’s affection.

La La Land

A musical movie with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone? I think yes. “La La Land brings together Ryan Gosling as a jazz pianist and Emma Stone as an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love while both trying to pursue their dreams. This movie will make you fall in love with Ryan Gosling all over again.

Although nothing but time can truly take away the pain from a breakup, at least these movies will help bring some light into your life and prove to you that it will get better!
