As we wrap up week seven, I found this week to be the hardest of all since social distancing began. This week I didn’t have the motivation to do my school work, send emails, or even go outside for a walk. Being past the halfway mark of the quarter, I know now is the most important time to continue to finish strong and stay on top of my work.

I searched for positive accounts on Instagram for help and inspiration with these lingering feelings of laziness and sadness. After looking for motivation, I found some.

If you’re unmotivated due to sadness or any other negative feelings, definitely write things out. Acknowledge what you’re feeling and sit down with yourself to understand what’s going on in your mind. Once you identify what’s bothering you, write it down. For me, writing has always been my outlet to let things out instead of bottling them up. You could write about anything from your emotions too what you want to accomplish or remind yourself of the goals you want to reach.

The next thing I found helpful was getting dressed. If you’re feeling unmotivated, then get dressed! Sometimes in the morning, I find myself stuck on my phone and that makes me stay in bed longer than I need to. As soon as I get up to go to the bathroom, I wash my face, brush my teeth, get dressed, and fix my hair.

By continuing old morning routines from when school was in-person, I found it helpful in making me stay focused and actually start any tasks I need to get done.

Lastly, procrastination happens to everyone. So the main thing is to not be too hard on yourself. I know for myself, it’s easy for me to feel bad about being unproductive then get into a weird stump. However, we’re in uncertain times so you should definitely cut yourself some slack.
