How to Maximize your Thanksgiving Break (Quarantine Edition)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NMSU chapter.

With Thanksgiving break finally here it’s easy to get in a bit of a slump. For many, holiday breaks might be the time to get rest from the semester while others might feel bored and not know what to do. Especially during a time where we are called to stay at home. If you’re anything like me, wasting your days which just makes your days pass by fast without the productiveness you’d wish, here are some ways to maximize your days during your break!

Work on your Hobby

Break can easily become boring if you don’t know what to do with your time. This is the perfect time to work on your hobby. Working on your project could help you stay busy and invest your time in something productive. If you don’t have a hobby this is your opportunity to learn something new! These are quarantine friendly hobbies you can pick from:

  • Cooking
  • Baking
  • Scrapbooking
  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Calligraphy
  • Photography
  • Learn a new language

Get involved with the Thanksgiving meal

If you’re home with family for the holidays you can spend some quality family time cooking together! Cooking can help people come together. If cooking isn’t something you’re interested in you can always spend time talking and enjoying each other’s company over your Thanksgiving dinner. If you’ll be away from home you can always take on the adventure to prepare your own Thanksgiving meal!

Plan a Friendsgiving dinner

Preparing your own Thanksgiving meal leads me to my next idea. If you have the means and the ability you can always host your own Friendsgiving dinner (safely of course!). You can have a small number of friends that will be with you during this break and have them join you to your special Friendsgiving celebration. You can prepare the dinner together, play games, and even say what you are thankful for. Now if you will be alone during the break you can also make your Friendsgiving a virtual get-together where you can invite all your friends and enjoy each other’s company!

Work on yourself

During this break you can take advantage of taking care of yourself. Pamper yourself and enjoy your time off! Self-care is important so use this time to distress. Do things like putting on face masks, take a warm bubble bath, and manicures and pedicures. You can also use this time to work out and work on your fitness regimen. All of these can help you not only show a little but if self-love and distress from the semester! Not to mention that you will be well rested for the last weeks of school!

Get ahead on any schoolwork

Another thing you can do during this break is get ahead on some schoolwork. This is the perfect opportunity for you to get some schoolwork done and even prepare for the future finals that you may have going back to school. Set some a small amount of time for you to finish any pending assignments or final assignments.

Relax

Last but not least if what you need is time to relax, do it! There is no better way to maximize a well-deserved break with a time of rest. The important thing is you do something that will benefit you. You don’t have to be constantly doing something to have a productive break. Take a time to binge watch that new show you’re hooked on or gain any loss of sleep. Maximize your break by recuperating and enjoy yourself! You only have a couple weeks of school left; you’re going to need it!
