The Dessert

This recipe is for apple pie bites. They are little handheld apple pies that are so easy, and SO delicious.

For this recipe, you do not even have to make your own dough. This is usually a huge red flag for me when I look for recipes because dough and bread can be so tricky, so we decided to take the easy (but good) route for this dessert! It uses crescent rolls that you can get from your local grocery store! We use Pillsbury, but I’m sure any brand will work.

It has a delicious apple pie spice blend that pairs beautifully with pecans and granny smith apples, and its hard to eat just one!

The Process

First, you are going to want to preheat your oven to 375 degrees and grease your baking pan and place the unrolled triangle crescents onto the pan.

Place your apple slices into a bowl of melted butter and let them soak.

From there, spread a generous layer of the apple pie spice onto the unrolled crescents. Add your chopped-up pecans on top of that. (I was less generous with the pecans on mine because I’m not a fan of nuts, but if you prefer more, go for it! It shouldn’t interfere with the bake process at all).

After, add your soaked apple on the fat end of the croissant and roll the crescent as normal with all your ingredients in it. Whatever extra butter you have left, put on top of the crescents.

Bake for 10-13 minutes (I do 12 minutes, but it may vary on your oven!) and allow to cool before taking off the pan!

And voila, you’re done and they taste so good!

The Ingredients

So, here’s your list of ingredients and the detailed how-to:

  • ¼ cup light-brown sugar
  • 1 (generous) tablespoon cinnamon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • ¾ cup of butter, melted
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • 1-2 granny smith apples, cored and sliced into 8-10 slices
  • 1 tube Pillsbury crescent rolls

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Grease your baking pan.
  3. Melt butter and cut apples into slices.
  4. Peel apple slices
  5. Place apples into melted butter to soak. Set aside.
  6. In a small bowl, combine cinnamon sugar, nutmeg, allspice, and brown sugar. Mix. This is your apple pie spice.
  7. Arrange crescent roll triangles onto baking pan.
  8. Distribute the apple pie spice onto the triangles generously.
  9. Sprinkle chopped pecans onto triangles.
  10. Place soaked apple slice onto fat side of the crescent roll.
  11. Wrap crescent roll around each apple.
  12. Brush each roll with remaining butter and sprinkle any additional spice onto the rolls.
  13. Bake for 10-13 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. Cool before taking off pan and serving.

The Secret

The secret ingredient in this recipe is the cinnamon sugar, peeling your apple slices, and soaking your apples in the butter! I tried with regular cinnamon, without peeling, and without soaking and doing those things really make a difference. Peeling the apples helps the moisture and soaking the apples make it more apple pie-y. Adding cinnamon sugar instead of plain cinnamon adds more flavor!

And there you have it! This was a fan favorite at our Thanksgiving and of course I had to share it with all of you! If you end up getting your #bakeon and making this recipe, post it to your stories and tag us at @hckennesaw; we would love to see it! Have fun and happy baking!
