5 Ways to Get Into the Christmas Spirit During Finals Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

Cue Andy William’s voice: “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

That’s right! Temperatures are dropping, Christmas lights are twinkling, and beautiful decorations are up all around. And what do us college students have to celebrate it with? FINALS. Ugh. The time that is supposed to be festive is stressful. We’re trying to finish strong while also making sure the holiday season doesn’t pass us by.

It may seem hard to do all of your favorite holiday activities as you finish the semester, but it’s not impossible! Here are five ways to help you feel more merry and bright throughout finals week.

Listen to Christmas Music as You Study

If you usually listen to music while studying, then now is the perfect time to listen to all the classics! Christmas music is always a good choice when you want to get into the spirit. Pull up your favorite Christmas playlist and play it softly, or blast it (we won’t judge), in the background.

Make Some Holiday Treats on Your Study Break

Depending on how long your study break is, you can escape to the kitchen and make some of your favorite treats. Make some peppermint bark, pralines, or, if you’re up to it, some sugar cookies from scratch.

Reward Yourself by Watching a Christmas Movie

These days, it can seem almost impossible to have the time to watch any Christmas specials. After you complete all of your studying and work for the day, put on your fuzzy socks, grab some hot cocoa, and turn on your favorite movie – the best way to unwind!

Donate Money & Gifts to People in Need

‘Tis the season of giving, and what better way to feel festive than by giving to others? This just doesn’t have to be for your friends and family. You can provide monetary donations to small or up and coming organizations, call a local shelter or school and offer that they set up a wishlist and you to buy the items.

Watch a Sermon

Don’t forget, He is the reason for the season. Even though some churches are closed during this time due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, there are many sermons you can find online, both new and old, from pastors all around the world. Head on over to YouTube and hear the inspiring words from a pastor that’ll not only help you feel less anxious as you take on your finals but also remind you about the meaning of this time.

May you excel on all of your finals, be jolly for the rest of the year, and have yourself a very merry Christmas!
