Self-care can come in many forms. One of my favorite ways to practice self-care is by getting cozy on the couch with tons of blankets and a warm drink to watch a movie that I know will make me cry. Sometimes having a good cry is really good for your mental and physical health as it helps relieve any tension you may have.

Below, I have compiled a list of some really great movies that are bound to make you bawl your eyes out.

The Notebook (2004)

Cheesy, funny, and sad, The Notebook has got it all. This movie is one I always go back to. It is one of my favorite movies of all time. The ending really ties the whole movie together, those last few minutes of the movie are the most importatnt. Unfortunately, a lot of streaming networks, like Netflix, cut the last few minutes of the movie; so if you are watching it for the first time, make sure you watch the full version.

The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019)

My Mom read The Art of Racing in the Rain and absolutely loved it. When the movie came out, she forced me to watch it with her. I had heard enough about the book to know it was sad, but I didn’t realize how sad the story was until the credits were rolling and my face was completely covered in tears. This was the first time in a long time that I had cried that hard to a movie.

Me Before You (2016)

Me Before You is spectacular. One of the best modern romantic comedies out there. It’s funny, clever, and beautifully sad. It is a lovely reminder on how sometimes, it is really important to put your own personal need before those of others.

Last Christmas (2019)

Last Christmas holds a special place in my heart as it was the last movie I saw in theaters before quarantine began. The ending is shocking, I did not see it coming. As I watched the story unfold my heart felt heavy with shock. Though this movie is set during the holiday season, it can still be enjoyed year-round!

Up (2009)

Pixar and Disney did not have to go that hard with a children’s movie. Eight year old me should not have cried that hard. Up is beautiful family movie.

Charlie St. Cloud (2010)

Charlie St. Cloud is depressing AF.

Soul Surfer (2011)

Soul Surfer is a super cute (yet extremely inspirational) story based on real life events. I tear up every-time I watch it.

Titanic (1997)

I swear…there was enough space on that piece of wood for the both of them.

Avengers: End Game (2019)

Watching Avengers: End Game during its release weekend was one of my most traumatic cinema experiences ever. Almost two years after its release and it still gets me.

Five Feet Apart (2019)

While watching Five Feet Apart in May of 2020 all I could think was ‘these characters are in 2020 without knowing they are in 2020.’ This is a really cute and sweet teen romance movie, that made me cry more than I expected.

Marley & Me (2008)

Another dog movie, sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Marley & Me is one of those timeless movies that will never not make you cry.

Grab some tissues, a warm drink, a blanket and get cozy on your sofa! Enjoy tearing up to these wonderful stories.
