Starting college can be super difficult, especially with having to move into a dorm or apartment. So, coming from a senior in college, let me break down things you might want to bring when moving into a dorm/apartment.

Bedroom Supplies

First, supplies for your desk when you’re studying. You could have some pencils, a notebook organizer, a couple notebooks for class, pencils, and a whiteboard, which can really help with studying. Now, your bedding really depends on the size of the bed, but you could get sheets, a comforter, and a mattress topper. These really help with comfortability. You also need pillows and a blanket. You can personalize your room with some decorations. In my dorm room, I had a couple pictures hung up with command hooks and fairy lights that I hung up around the pictures. This really helped me with feeling comfortable in my dorm room, given that it was a new environment.

Bathroom Supplies

Now for the bathroom toiletries. I had a shower caddy with my bathroom supplies, which was really helpful for the communal bathrooms. In the case of a personal bathroom, a little moveable shower shelf with everything organized was really helpful when I got my apartment. Also for the bathroom, some shower shoes and the towels, and of course, washcloths.

miscellaneous Supplies

Now organization. A laundry basket, a shoe rack, and some under the bed storage was great because it can help keep the dorm room area clean. For cleaning, having a broom, some wipes, and trash bags with a trach can, also helped keep the dorm clean. Now for health, it can be very stressful, and being sick is almost inevitable. Having some over the counter medications, soothing teas or some basic first aid can be great when needed. Finally, some other things are a power strip, a desk lamp for when you need to study late at night and you don’t want to wake your roommate, and a water filter is a great addition to the dorms. Now for the most important part, some snacks for when you need to finish a hard project and you need a small pick me up to stay on tasks. These snacks can be chips, candy, chocolate, fruit, protein bars or granola bars, really anything that you enjoy. Moving in while also worrying about being a college student can be very stressful, so I hope this helped just a little bit to prepare for this new stage!
