There is something about losing someone that reminds us just how precious it is to have someone in the first place. Recently, someone very precious to me experienced the loss of someone they loved. Listening to the way they spoke about him left a lasting impression on me. The love in their words, the way they remembered him and the significance he held in their life reminded me that sometimes, a person’s impact is so much greater than they may ever realize.
We often move through life assuming there will always be another day to call someone, another opportunity to say I love you, another moment to show someone just how much they mean to us. We get so caught up in the busyness of living that we forget how extraordinary it is to simply have the people we love beside us. But none of us are promised forever. Maybe that is why the ordinary moments matter so much. The conversations, the laughter, the little things we barely think twice about in the moment may one day become the memories we hold closest to our hearts.
So, I write this as a reminder to cherish the people who make your life what it is. Tell them you love them. Make time for them. Notice the little things. Never let the people who matter to you wonder whether they do. Because at the end of the day, we may not remember every detail of our lives, but we will remember the people who made us feel loved, the ones who stood beside us, and the ones who made this life a little more beautiful simply by being in it.
Value the people in your life. While they’re here, while you can, and while you have the chance to let them know just how much they mean to you.
I think one of the easiest things to do in life is to become so comfortable with the presence of the people we love that we forget how special it really is. We get used to their good morning texts, their familiar voices, their hugs, their laughter and the comfort of knowing they’re only a phone call away. We begin to see these little things as ordinary, when in reality, they are some of the most meaningful parts of being alive. We don’t always stop to appreciate the friend who checks in on us, the family member who shows up when we need them, or the person who can make even our worst days feel a little lighter. We assume there will be more conversations, more memories, and more opportunities to tell them how much they mean to us.
While it’s easy to believe that love is something people simply know we feel, I think it’s important to remember that love deserves to be expressed, not just felt. Don’t wait for a special occasion to remind someone that you appreciate them. Don’t wait until they’re gone to speak about the difference they made in your life. Sometimes, the smallest gestures are the ones that leave the biggest impressions. The people who mean the most to us deserve to know that while they’re still here to hear it.
