Dopamine dressing is wearing clothes that change your mood by bringing you happiness, comfort, and confidence. Dopamine is a chemical messenger that also acts as a hormone in your brain that regulates movement, motivation and acts as the brain’s reward center. The idea of dopamine dressing is that you choose what you wear on your body, influenced by your own thoughts, energy, and likeness, not by the current trends on social media.

Dopamine dressing usually consists of incorporating brighter, bolder colors and patterns. You can mix classic patterns such as polka dots, stripes, and animal prints with a bold color you like. Mixing even patterns together, or wearing two bright colors together. Be experimental with it!

It is very easy to incorporate bolder colors or patterns into an everyday look. You can wear a fun sweater or jacket, or a pair of pants with bold colors or patterns. Accessorize! Add chunky jewelry, rings, or necklaces with fun colors, shapes, and sizes.

It can be a bit hard to completely jump to wearing all these bright colors and patterns, so pairing them with a neutral top or denim jeans can help. Add a statement piece of jewelry or even accessorize with a colorful bag full of sequins.

The idea of dopamine dressing is to wear what you want to wear! What you feel the most comfortable in and that gives you the most confidence. Dress for joy! Dress with what makes you happy. Wear a shirt or accessory that you love; it’s your style, and don’t let anyone else dictate what you wear.
