As a girl who loves to get ready, I don’t like always getting out of bed. When the sheets are too soft and the blankets are too warm it can be a great struggle. Then I remember this is my one precious life.Â
I like to wake up and picture the S Walnut sidewalks as my runway and campus as my stage. I feel my best when I have a good outfit on, so why settle for an ordinary day when I can give myself a reason to feel confident? Clothes run so much deeper than to just cover up. Clothes can support expressing your personality, boosting your confidence, and overall carrying yourself to a higher standard.
Self-Expression Through Fashion.
The coolest fashion statement is when someone expresses who they are through their clothes. I’ve always found fashion as an external way to express your mood and feelings. Between accessorizing with jewelry, picking the best hair style, and layering, there’s all sorts of different ways to show your personality. I love necklaces and rings, whether they’re sentimental or random, because they add flair. Styling with hopes of conveying a message can go further than imagined, clothes can be used as a symbol. For example, band t-shirts often express someone’s musical taste, connect them with other fans, or reflect an admiration to a particular artist. I often base my outfits off my mood and strategically pick a color theme to portray my vibe for the day. On days where I feel more to myself I may wear clothes representing a more closed off look with neutral colors. Clothes give us the power to communicate things about our personalities, interests, and the way we choose to present ourselves.Â
Confidence & Excitement in Fashion.
The expression “look good, feel good” is a motto I live by. Styling yourself is an everyday opportunity to influence how you approach the world. I always feel better prepared and carry myself with confidence when I feel well put together. On days where I have a big test or have to study I make sure I am dressed to succeed. Having a getting ready process is a simple way to microdose excitement to start your day. Planning outfits can give you something to look forward to, whether you’re going to class, meeting friends, or simply getting food. Especially when you need motivation it’s great to take advantage of the ability to romanticize your life with your appearance.Â
First Impressions in Fashion.
First impressions can make or break how you are viewed. On a college campus there are many impressions to make and people to meet between classes, campus organizations, social events, and everyday interactions. You are constantly surrounded by social interactions and clothes offer a way of nonverbal communication. Our choices in our style have a profound impact on how we perceive ourselves and how others will perceive us. When meeting new people our appearance is the first grasp at how we experience style. Shoes can elevate an outfit as well, they have the power to help you strut or walk with grace whether that be kitten heels or Doc Martens. Also, important to note, always dressing up lowers the opportunity for the enemies to catch you lacking.Â
Life is too short not to make an effort to feel good about yourself. Even an ordinary day can be transformed when you find a cute mini skirt. You don’t always need a special event to enjoy getting dressed. Waking up is reason enough.
