Oh Florida, the Sunshine State! I consider myself very lucky to live in it. However, having family in Chicago, and having visited there multiple times can make me yearn for a season that already exists: fall. Without chilly weather and orange foliage, it’s easy for people in Florida to feel sad about not experiencing fall to its fullest. However, there are some things that help me get more into the cozy mood and get out of the FOMO!

1. Ambient Lighting

Whether it’s LED lights or candles, we want to give the room a cozy and warm atmosphere. This definitely sets the mood for either a long study night or a horror movie marathon. Find any excuse not to turn the overhead light on!

2. Hands On Hobbies

Puzzles, coloring, Sudoku, oh my! A fun game with low stakes is the perfect way to cozily keep your brain sharp. There’s also crocheting and journaling, which are really hands-on. It’s imperative to choose an activity that doesn’t require a fast pace!

3. “Fall-esce” Music

Hey Siri, play “Jackie and Wilson” by Hozier, please! There’s so much music out there that gives off a fall vibe. Some of my favorites are Hozier, Gigi Perez, Lizzy McAlpine, Noah Kahan, Florence + The Machine, etc. Time to get in the mood!

4. Do “Fall” activities

Obviously, we’ve heard of corn mazes, pumpkin patches, petting zoos, etc. However, during the day, the Florida heat can make these activities feel less fun. Going sometime when the sun is starting to settle down should be the way to go. And, of course, bring your friends!

While Florida doesn’t exactly have the scenery of Fall, that shouldn’t stop us from have the same cozy feeling that it brings. Fall is a mindset!
