If you’re still saying “I have no idea what I’m being for Halloween,” it’s time to figure it out.
It’s finally October, which means we have entered the part of the year where everyone remembers Halloween is coming, but for me, I’ve been thinking about this since last December.
I get it, coming up with a Halloween costume that is actually cute, doesn’t feel completely overdone and won’t cost your entire paycheck is basically impossible.
So, if you’re currently scrolling Pinterest at 2 a.m. trying to figure out what your personality is going to be for the night, here are five costume ideas that are already on my 2026 Halloween mood board.
1. X-Men
Superheroes are obviously never going anywhere, but hear me out: X-Men.
Instead of doing the same superhero costume everyone has seen 500 times, pick your favorite X-Men character, whether you know them or just like the look, and make the costume your own. There’s Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue and Mystique, which all have good costume potential but are always overlooked.
In my opinion, this is one of the best group costumes too. Everyone can pick a different character, and there are so many no one has to argue over who gets to be who. You can go full comic-book character or make it more fashion-y and Halloween-night-out appropriate. Either way, you really can’t go wrong.
2. My Little Pony
I fear I am reentering my My Little Pony era.
This costume is for the girls who grew up watching the show, collecting the toys or begging their parents for anything with a pony on it.
There’s Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack, and Fluttershy, who all have completely different personalities, which makes it even more fun to pick who is who.
Plus, you don’t need to buy a full costume either. You can pick your fav, find an outfit inspired by their colors and add some cute accessories. Bonus points if everyone coordinates without looking like they bought the exact same Halloween set from Amazon.
3. Glam Vampire
The vampire costume is a classic, but I think it’s time we retire the plastic vampire cape.
This year, think glam vampire. Give me lace, boots, dark makeup, statement jewelry and maybe a little red if you’re feeling dramatic. Basically, dress like you just walked out of a very expensive vampire romance novel.
The best part is that you can give this one so many different vibes so easily. You could go gothic, romantic, mysterious or even a little campy. There are no rules.
What did they say in Mean Girls?
“In Girl World, Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut…” Halloween is the only night of the year when you can wear an unnecessarily dramatic outfit, and nobody gets to ask why.
4. Greek Goddess
Greek goddess costumes have been around forever, and after The Odyssey, Greek mythology has been infesting my brain. But that doesn’t mean you have to look like you bought the first white dress you saw at a Halloween store.
Instead, pick an actual goddess. Aphrodite, Athena, Medusa, or Persephone any of them can give you a completely different vibe. Add gold jewelry, dramatic makeup, a fun hairstyle or whatever details make the costume feel like you.
This is a good option if you want something simple but can still make the Halloween post. And let’s be real, if you’re going out on Halloween, the photo dump matters.
5. Witchcore
The witch costume has been in for a much-needed makeover.
We’re talking less “pointy hat from the Halloween aisle” and more dark academia, cottagecore, or just a girl who definitely has crystals in her room.
Black dresses, lace, boots, silver jewelry, layered necklaces, some dramatic makeup, and you can basically turn anything in your closet into a costume.
Honestly, this is probably the easiest one on the list because you most likely already own half of it.
You could even make it more specific. Forest witch, romantic witch, glam witch, whatever your heart desires.
Now Go Figure Out Your Costume
Whether you’re planning to turn your friend group into the X-Men (I am lol), relive your childhood with My Little Pony, or just want an excuse to wear a dramatic vampire outfit, Halloween is the perfect time to have a little fun with your look.
So please stop saying you’ll figure it out the week of Halloween. We both know you won’t. I even linked Pinterest boards to make your job even easier.
Happy Halloween!
