Dr. Pepper cake may sound a little strange; I know. However, my mom made this for me all the time as a kid, so it’s a classic for me. It’s so moist and flavorful. If you are a fan of this soda, you will LOVE this cake. Plus, you can always swap it out for another dark soda!

Preheat oven to 350

In a large bowl, combine

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup Dr. Pepper soda
  • 1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 1 stick salted butter (8 tablespoons)
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder (again, I used Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa powder)

Add these ingredients to a saucepan over medium heat until combined, then add dry ingredients to the pan.

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Beat these ingredients together before adding to your pan mixture.

Bake for 23-28 minutes!

For frosting (optional; you can just buy chocolate frosting)

  • 1 stick salted butter (8 tablespoons)
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 8 tablespoons milk
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar (powdered sugar)

Add the first three ingredients until melted/combined; then slowly add your powdered sugar.

Enjoy!
