“Scrubtober” has been trending on my TikTok as Halloween is approaching. For those of us working in healthcare on Halloween, or just want to be festive during October, here are some of my favorite ideas for most scrub colors.

Disclaimer: Not every workplace will allow more extravagant costumes, so make sure yours is compliant and appropriate for your specific workplace and specialty. Some accessories would be cute for a picture, but should be removed for a normal workday.

Blue
  • Minions (Despicable Me): Wear your scrubs, yellow under scrubs, and some minion goggles!
  • Cinderella: Add some light blue underscrubs, a black choker, blue headband, and style your hair in a bun.
  • Stitch (Lilo & Stitch): Blue underscrubs (optional) and add a Stitch headband.
  • Judy Hops (Zootopia): Pin a fake police badge to your top, add a bunny ears headband, and add a carrot clip or carrot themed accessory.
  • Aliens (Toy Story): Wear lime green underscrubs and a Toy Story alien headband.
Green or teal
  • Tiana (Princess and the Frog): Add some green underscrubs (optional), frog accessories, and a princess crown (optional).
  • Fiona (Shrek): Style your hair in a braid (perfect for red hair), add a clip-in crown, and Shrek ogre ears.
  • Flower/plant/cactus: Plants have a lot of possibilities. Either green or pink underscrubs could be a cute addition, add any leaf accessories like vines, flower clips, or a cute headband with a cactus or flower coming out of it
  • Poison Ivy: This one is also perfect for anyone with ginger or red hair. Add some fake vines pinned to your scrubs; there are even some gloves/sleeves with attached vines on Amazon.
  • Kermit: Wear some green underscrubs, a pointy kermit collar, and a headband with kermit’s eyes. This one would be a funny and easy costume.
Black
  • Butterfly: Just add butterfly wings and an antenna headband.
  • Ladybug: Wear red- and black-spotted underscrubs, add some red wings with black spots, and an antenna headband.
  • Mavis (Hotel Transylvania): Red and black striped underscrubs, batt accessories, vampire teeth, and red Converse.
  • Edna (The Incredibles): Wear some red underscrubs, round glasses, a wig of short black hair with bangs (optional), and Incredibles-themed socks or accessories.
  • Wednesday Addams (The Addams’ Family): Add some black and white striped underscrubs, wear a twin braid hairstyle, and blow-up glove for Thing.
  • Harry Potter character: Super easy if you’re a Harry Potter fan, just wear a house scarf and add a wand.
Grey
  • Bunny: This one is the simplest, just wear bunny ears, and maybe do some bunny-themed makeup.
  • Gargoyle: A more unique costume; grey underscrubs, grey bat wings, horns, and silver accessories.
  • Elephant: Add an elephant ear headband, and it could be cute to have some peanut accessories (or even bring in the circus peanut candies as a treat).
  • Ghost: Wear white underscrubs and ghost accessories. A cute hairstyle is to put your hair in high space buns, cover each bun with white tissue paper, and draw a ghost face on each one (maybe don’t choose this option if you work in the emergency department or hospice).
Maroon or brown
  • Cheeta: I think a maroon and cheeta print combo would look super cute! Cheeta print underscrubs and some animal ears; maybe some cute makeup to match.
  • Deer: Adding some deer-themed makeup would be so cute for this one, but all you need is a headband with antlers, and if you could find some deer print underscrubs, that would be so cute too.
  • Russel (UP): Walmart and Halloween.com have a kit for his sash with pins, a neck scarf, and a matching hat. This would be super cute if you’re willing to spend about $30.
Pink
  • Strawberry Shortcake: Wear pink, red, and/or green striped underscrubs; add strawberry accessories, or wear a strawberry shortcake hat.
  • Pig: Pink underscrubs, pig ears headband, and a fake pig nose (probably should wear just for a picture).
  • Pinkalishious: This one would be more unique, but add pink wings, a crown, and a magic wand with a star at the top.
Purple
  • Rapunzel (Tangled): This one is my personal favorite. Wear purple or pink underscubs (optional), hair in a braid, flowers to clip into your hair, a princess crown (optional), and a Pascal accessory (a claw clip, pin, or small stuffed animal pinned to your top).
  • Daphne (Scooby-Doo!): This one is also super simple: wear a green scarf around your neck, and add a purple headband.
  • Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty): For this one, add some black underscrubs, a Maleficent horn headband, and some lime green accessories or subtle makeup would be perfect.
No Color Restrictions/Mix & Match
  • Winnie the Pooh: Wear yellow scrub pants, a red scrub top, or a matching red set with yellow underscrubs, and add some bear ears. Bonus points if you have a honey pin or hair clip.
  • Coraline: Black pants, red underscrubs or scrub top, and add a yellow sweater/raincoat, a dragonfly barette, and a blue hair wig (optional).
  • Any Care Bear: Draw or print out the Care Bear of choice’s design, pin it to your scrub top, and add a matching headband with bear ears.
  • Velma (Scooby-Doo!): Wear maroon or red pants, an orange top, and some round glasses. This is perfect if you have a coworker going as Daphne, too!
  • Any fruit: Adding a green leafed headband would be a cute addition to most colorful scrubs. You could be a strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, etc!
