Now that fall is here and we’re settled into the school year and some of us might be looking for a mental reset or a reminder to keep going. To me, fall is a fresh start. The weather is getting cooler, the leaves are falling, the campus is settling, the chaos from the beginning of the semester seems to wind down. Your new routine and goals that you set for the new school year/season are happening. Sometimes the excitement and adrenaline of the new semester dies down and we start to figure out what we need to do in order to succeed this year.
To me, this season is more than a season but a reset and a reminder. A moment to be grounded and remember why you were working so hard in the first few weeks.
Settling into the school year
Once the rush of the school year starts settling down, you’re left with a routine that can feel comfortable or overwhelming. It’s so easy for the motivation to die down and you start to feel content but this is when you push yourself and growth happens. Fall gives you the chance to settle in but also sculpt a routine for the rest of the semester.
Reconnecting with that “why“
This is a time to ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?” One of the things I struggled with was doing so well in the beginning of the school year and staying on track then falling off and getting distracted. Whether you’re chasing a degree, a job, or proving something to yourself, you want your outcome to be bigger than why you started in the first place.
It is so important to reward yourself for things you accomplish. I don’t care if it’s something small or big, celebrating your success is so essential for yourself to keep going. A moment for gratitude for how far you’ve come goes a long way.
Keeping your head in the right place
It’s easy to feel stressed out with deadlines and mid-terms coming up but this semester you’re going to create a study plan and set aside days so that you are going to reach those deadlines. But a grounded mindset comes with small intentional choices.
- Set intentional goals for the week- Not overwhelming goals but goals for the week you can handle without wanting to rip your hair out.
- Create a study environment you feel comfortable in- I love the vibe of studying in a cute cozy coffee shop with some good coffee or matcha with me. I also love putting my headphones on and studying alone or else I won’t focus.
- Surround yourself with people who lift you up- Energy that drains the life out of you is not healthy and affects your mental health immensely! Do yourself a favor and be around people who make you happy.
A fresh start- Mindset and weather
As the weather cools, let your mind cool with it. Fall has a way of reminding us that change is natural. You’re allowed to start fresh, not because you failed, but because you’re evolving.
Use this season as a chance to:
- Let go of habits that aren’t serving you.
- Rebuild routines that work for you
- Give yourself time to be grounded
Fall is the perfect blend of comfort and clarity. This season is yours to grow, to refocus, and to reconnect with the version of yourself you’re becoming.
