We all have those few things that we use every single day and would completely struggle without. For me, some of these things are practical, while others are things that make my everyday life just a little better. As a college student, I have learned that having a few things that keep me comfortable and organized can make a huge difference. Here are ten things I genuinely cannot live without.
My Phone
Not niche, I know. My phone is truly my entire life in one place. I wish it didn’t have to be this way, but it does. I use it to communicate with my family and friends, check my schedule, take pictures, listen to music, and to keep up with everything happening around me. Whether I am waiting for class to start or need directions somewhere, my phone is always with me. I honestly feel lost when I accidentally leave it somewhere, which probably isn’t healthy, but hey, what can you do.
Hydrojug
My HydroJug goes everywhere with me. To class, to the gym, in my car, and anywhere else I go. I swear it makes me drink more water than any other water bottle I have had (sorry, Owala users). It has quickly become one of those things where if I leave the house or dorm without it, I immediately feel like something is missing.
Vera Bradley Blanket
This is the most sentimental item on my list. I have had my childhood blanket for as long as I can remember, and it has gone everywhere with me through all stages of my life. Even though I am older now and probably shouldn’t need it to fall asleep, I do. It is comforting to have something familiar from home with me.
Hoka Sneakers
My sneakers are another everyday essential. Whether I am walking around campus, running errands, going to work, or going to the gym, they are my go-to shoes. College involves a lot of walking, so comfy sneakers are a necessity. I honestly would rather wear my Hokas everywhere than sacrifice comfort for any other shoe (maybe my Uggs).
My 2004 Saab Convertible
My car gives me a sense of independence. Being able to get in my car and go wherever I need to go is something I appreciate so much more now that I am in college. Whether I am driving home for the weekend, going to get coffee, running errands, or just needing a change of scenery, my car makes everything easier.
Routine
One thing I have realized about myself is that I function so much better when I have a routine. Having a general idea of when I am going to wake up, go to class, study, work out, eat, and relax helps me feel organized. My routine does not have to be perfect, but having some structure keeps me from feeling overwhelmed.
Fun Drinks
A fun Starbucks drink can make an ordinary day feel a little more exciting. Sometimes it is a reward after class, a pick-me-up before studying, or simply something I want because it sounds good. It may seem like a small thing, but having little treats to look forward to makes my day more enjoyable.
Wet Brush
My pink Wet Brush is the only thing that successfully brushes my hair without making me regret having hair in the first place. I have tried other brushes, but nothing compares. It has become such a specific part of my routine that I would genuinely be annoyed if I could not find it. Plus, the fact that it is pink makes it even better.
My planner
My planner is what keeps my life together. Between classes, assignments, tests, activities, appointments, and personal plans, there is always something going on. Writing everything down helps me remember what needs to get done and prevents important things from slipping through the cracks. Seeing everything organized on paper also makes my workload feel much more manageable.
Beats Studio Pros
Finally, I cannot live without my noise-canceling headphones. They are perfect for studying, traveling, working out, or simply needing some quiet time. College can be loud and busy, so sometimes being able to put on my headphones and block everything else out is exactly what I need.
Although none of these things are necessarily life-changing on their own, they all make my everyday life a little easier and more enjoyable. From my phone and planner to my childhood blanket and Starbucks drinks, these are the little things that make me feel comfortable, organized, and like myself.
