College football season is so back, and if you go to an ACC school, you know there are two parts to this day: a morning full of almost-fashion shows and an afternoon full of football.
No one ever sat down and talked to me about FSU game day outfits. However, as your unofficial big sister, I got you! It took me until junior and senior year to start figuring out my game day style, but I finally got there. When you go to an ACC school, it can feel like everyone has the perfectly curated outfit and you’re the only one who didn’t get the memo. Well, whether you’re a freshman or a senior, I have some big sister advice for you.
- Be Yourself

My first piece of advice is to go with something that feels like you. There’s nothing worse than wearing an outfit you’re uncomfortable in, both emotionally and literally. If you don’t love your game day outfit, it’s gonna show.
- Don’t Do Too Much

I’ve found that picking one color and going off that is probably the best decision. Don’t force an outfit with both garnet and gold because you want to show off that you’re an FSU fan. Trust me, they know.
Instead, pick garnet for this game and save gold for the next one (or vice versa). I’m a big fan of garnet, so that’s usually what I base my game-day outfits on. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll find a way to get gold in there, but usually from gold earrings or a necklace.
- Find a Good Base, yet also add a Pop

I love to incorporate an ivory mesh outfit, which goes amazing with garnet, by the way. Don’t be scared to have fun with it, and be confident.
Invest in some cowgirl boots. I bought mine sophomore year and wore them for almost every single game day. Unfortunately, after two football seasons, line dancing, and a Halloween cowgirl costume, my red game-day boots have come to an end, but it was totally worth it!
You can also get a bunch of fun ribbons and tie them to your boots. Mine have remained on there from past seasons (don’t judge).
- Do Something Fun With Your Hair

Your outfit doesn’t have to do all the work! Doing something a little extra with your hair can make a simple game day outfit feel way more put together.
Try adding some ribbons or doing some braids. Match your ribbons to your outfit, add a little gold, or just have fun with it. Personally, I love when people have little garnet and gold ribbons woven into their braids. It’s such a small detail, but it makes the whole outfit feel more game day.
If all else fails, a good blowout will never disappoint. Especially if you can find some good accessories like sunglasses or a cute hat to go with it!
- Thrift Your Outfit

Honestly, some of my favorite game day outfits have been thrifted. Whether it’s at the local Goodwill or on Depop, it’s one of the best ways to do game day. You don’t want to spend a crazy amount of money on game day outfits you don’t see yourself wearing too often, but you also don’t want to settle for something you don’t love. It’s also a good way to avoid overconsuming in today’s world.
Also, don’t be afraid of rewearing an outfit! You can find different ways to change it up a bit. You absolutely do not need to buy a new outfit for every game day.
- Accessorize Your Outfits

This is where you can really have some fun with your outfit. I personally love going with chunky gold earrings and a cute gold necklace, along with my favorite good luck charm bracelet.
I also love the game day pin culture we have here! I have a small bag with some of my favorite FSU pins that I can grab from to spice up my outfit. Don’t forget the little things! A good pair of sunglasses, a cute hat, or even a fun bag can completely change an outfit.
- Dress Cute, But Prepare for Florida Weather

As cute as your outfit is, you also have to remember that you’re in Florida. You want to make sure you’re wearing something breathable and comfortable, especially for those early-season games when it’s still ridiculously hot.
Don’t wear something just because it looks cute if you know you’re going to be sweating through it by kickoff. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later.
At the end of the day, game day is about having fun and showing off your school spirit. Don’t stress too much about finding the “perfect” outfit. Whether you’re wearing something you thrifted, rewearing an old favorite, or trying something completely new, the best accessory is confidence.
So, grab your garnet and gold, throw on your favorite boots, and get ready for another football season. And remember, there’s no wrong way to do game day! Go Noles!
