College can be stressful, by taking it one day at as time and slowing down, we can make this a positive experience while creating memories and nostalgia that we will cherish 10 years down the road.
Slowing down
It seems as if everyone in college always has something to do and somewhere to be.College can turn us into busy bees. It is important to slow down and we can do this by waking up early and having slow mornings to ourselves, not rushing while doing hair and makeup and having time to put together a cute outfit that makes us feel confident, rather than throwing on whatever is clean before rushing out the door. It is important to take things slow and appreciate where we are now, rather than focusing on getting to the next place as quick as we can.
Finding cute study spots
Me personally, I can not focus in the library, I think there are too many people and too many florescent lights. Everyone works differently but I like to romanticize my studying by going to Lab coffee, Starbucks, or finding lowkey study spaces around campus where I can focus and be at peace. If the library works for you then perfect! If you find yourself in the same situation as me, then I encourage you to walk around campus and seek new study spots where you think you’ll thrive.
Updating your playlists
I am someone who does not often update my playlist but also gets bored of listening to the same songs on shuffle, I encourage you to update your playlists at least once a week and vibe along while you study. My favorite genre of music to listen to while studying is jazz music, to me it never gets repetitive and it makes me feel at peace. I love the sound of the instruments and the calm beat. I recommend you check it out and see if jazz is for you, my favorite artist is Piero Piccioni.
Catching up with a friend
Sometimes we get so caught up in our work and our personal goals that it gets in the way of our social life. It is important to slow down, text some friends and make plans to hang out. Socialization keeps us happy and is a good way to calm down our nervous system. Never be too shy to reach out to anyone, or to talk to your classmates or people you keep running into, you never know who you might meet! They could be your future roommates or lifelong friends.
Cute room decor
Our room should be a reflection of our interests and our own safe space. A clean and cute room can bring lots of peace to use during the most important moments of our day which happens the moment we wake up and when we are getting ready for bed. I recommend hanging garlands around for whimsy, investing in a humidifier and scented oil, and most importantly warm lighting. I love fairy lights and I hang them over my headboard behind all my fluffy pillows. It is the perfect light for when I am scrolling before bed and want some light but not too much.
