I’m Claire, your Associate Editor for the 26/27 year! I look forward to joining a community of writers sharing stories that connect us all and broaden our perspectives.
Language and its uses fascinates me. As a fourth-year English student, with minors in Professional Writing and News Media and Information, I have been able to explore how we use our shared language to communicate our passions and ideas. I love examining how stories can shape the world.
My favourite articles to write are those about the arts, culture, literature and their impacts on societies. While I only discovered my love for a journalistic style of writing in a first-year journalism class, I hope my background in creative and academic writing will bring something unique to my articles for HCC and how I approach editing.
My love for reading novels, too, has equipped me with the skills to think deeply about the stories I engage with. Novels by women, especially, have truly shaped me into the writer I am today. Donna Tartt, L.M Montgomery, Maggie O’Farrell, Margaret Atwood, Mary Shelley, R.F Kuang and Shirley Jackson are among my favourites!
If you see me on campus, it will most definitely be on the fifth floor of the library, where I spend all my time reading and typing up essays and articles. Come say hi, we can chat about books!
Outside of school, you might find me at any cafe in Ottawa, as I have made it a goal to try every single one before I graduate (perhaps an article about the best chai lattes in Ottawa is needed).
I am beyond excited to begin reading and editing all the lovely stories everyone has to share!
