Season 2 brought plenty of drama to the Walter family. Friendships were tested, relationships reached breaking points, family dynamics shifted, and the love triangle at the center of the series became more complicated than ever in the season finale. With shocking confessions and betrayals, several cliffhangers left fans with plenty of questions heading into the next chapter, setting the stage for an emotional Season 3. If it’s been a while since you last checked in with the Walter family, a refresher is definitely in order. These are the six biggest events from Season 2 to have fresh in your mind before you press play on Season 3.
Jackie’s Return
Jackie returns to Silver Falls after spending time in New York and briefly considering attending boarding school in Vermont. After some convincing from Katherine, she ultimately decides to come back to Silver Falls. The Walter family is displeased with her upon her return, with residual feelings of disappointment after she left without saying goodbye. Her return also immediately complicates things with Cole and Alex. While Cole wants to reconnect and pick up where they left off, Jackie chooses to keep her distance, afraid of causing more harm after everything that happened. Meanwhile, Alex is no longer the same person she left behind, and appears uninterested in rekindling their relationship.
Alex Gets into Bronco Riding
Alex comes back from summer horseback riding training with a noticeable confidence and glow-up, gaining popularity at school and sidelining his best friend, Kiley. Upon returning, he pursues bronco riding in secret, despite his parents refusing to allow it. Jackie discovers his secret and initially helps to keep it, but soon, his parents find out and step in, hiring rodeo trainer Blake Hartford to ensure Alex trains safely. As Alex trains, sparks fly between him and Blake.
Dylan & Kiley’s Unexpected Romance
Alex’s best friend Kiley and Cole’s teammate Dylan form an unexpected friendship that slowly grows into a romance. Dylan is drawn to Kiley because of how different she is to him; she challenges him and sees behind his popular exterior. Kiley, in turn, is drawn to Dylan’s vulnerability. Their connection deepens as Kiley becomes a confidant of Dylan’s as he navigates his father’s expectations for his football career. Dylan eventually asks Kiley to be his girlfriend and she says yes. But Kiley is still holding on to her own secrets that could create major challenges for their relationship in Season 3.
Cole’s Coaching Role & Academic Journey
Cole steps into a new role as assistant coach of his football team, navigating life after his own football career. Cole does one-on-one lessons with Dylan to help him prepare to face the team’s toughest rivalry. Eventually, Cole is offered a spot in a coaching program by a scout. Alongside his coaching responsibilities, Cole focuses on his academic journey, working to rebuild his future outside of football. Jackie tutors Cole for his SAT.
Alex & Jackie Rekindle Romance
After weeks of icing out Jackie, Alex eventually admits that he still has feelings for Jackie. The two decide to rekindle their relationship, but they do it in secret to avoid more drama. Alex confesses he loves her, and Jackie says it back. Cole finds out about their rekindled relationship after walking in on them kissing on the couch at Richard’s house.
Cole & Jackie’s Confession, & a Family Emergency
Meanwhile, Cole’s feelings for Jackie become impossible to ignore. In the season finale, he confesses that he saw Jackie and Alex together. He then says he loves her, and Jackie admits that she loves him, too, despite being in a relationship with Alex. As they lean in to kiss, they are interrupted by Alex, who overheard the conversation. Then, an unexpected surprise — the finale concludes with a shocking revelation from Will, the oldest of the Walter children. He informs them all that something has happened to their dad, George. An ambulance arrives, and the season ends.
With relationships fractured, secrets exposed, and the Walter family facing an uncertain future, Season 2 leaves fans with plenty of questions heading into the upcoming season. As the fallout from the finale unfolds, Season 3 will reveal what comes next for Jackie, Cole, Alex, and the rest of the Walter Family.
