Sexiness? Fangs? A love triangle that consumes you? Yes! You guessed it folks, we’re here to talk about, The Vampire Diaries, today. Not to be confused with it’s similar popular vampire hit of the time, Twilight, this show really absorbs you into the vampire universe. Starting off with the small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia where there seems to be much normalcy on the outside until we see an allusive “animal attack” (which we all actually know is a vampire.) Initially *yikes* it comes off as intense and scary, until we meet these “creatures of the night.” From the beginning we meet the sexy brooding new guy in town, Stefan Salvatore played by Paul Wesley. His old soul, leather jacket, and hero hair left all of us, including me, wanting to know more.

Then we meet an even sexier, mysterious, blue-eyed killer named Damon Salvatore played by none other than, Ian Somerhalder. These TV brothers make blood, gore, and being murderous vampires immensely attractive. There wasn’t one time throughout the entire series that their abs weren’t perfection. Does anyone else think they might actually be immortal? Regardless, their looks aren’t the only thing that have kept me and a million of other teen girls watching. Showing their histories as humans in the civil war, with the incredible time period outfits, was everything. These brother’s endless love for this one girl, and even dying as humans for love is truly inspirational.

These brothers go all out to show this girl they love her by saving her life, subtle gestures, and exciting her in ways she has never known. This one girl, Elena Gilbert, played by Nina Dobrev is beautiful and her acting skills would be worth dying for. This kind of love really raises the bar for men, am I right ladies? This shows not only how possibly love is, but how amazing it can be. Even though the supernatural aspects are unrealistic, it lets you indulge into the fantasies that you can’t have day to day. These supernatural storylines that are also created to explain the supernatural world are also all feasible and would make a believer of anyone.

Even skeptics like myself fell victim to this. In a creative way, the producers made the idea of vampires and other supernatural creatures roaming around such a realistic idea. Cue the applause for that one! They make you feel so connected to the characters like your in the show right along with them. Every time one of them dies, it’s like you lost a friend yourself. Every time they are drinking someone’s blood, you think how do they make that look so good?

Like please turn me into a vampire. Even all of Damon’s shower or shirtless scenes I’m right there, just appreciating. Anyway, we’ll disregard that statement. This show just makes it apparent that no matter what family and friends at the end of the day are what’s important. No matter what big bad evil comes into the show, their first priority is always each other, which is frankly refreshing in a self-centered world.

These characters all go through their own issues, which can be cool to witness, even if it’s through the villains of the show. Yes, we must give appreciation to these villains we hate to love. The villians on this show are some of the most fascinating characters because of how complex and broken they are. They do bad immoral things, but the show makes us see the good sides of them and how grey things can be when it comes to people.

Showing their background and history to give an understanding of why they are the way they are. Love the chaos these villains bring, but don’t you all just want them to do the right thing in the end? I’m raising my hand. Regardless if they’re ‘good’ or ‘villainous’ characters they all give the audience a moment that they can relate to, particularly the vulnerable ones. Elena Gilbert’s breakdown because her whole family died, hits every sad bone in your body.

Anytime a character is so sad they turn their humanity off, come on who doesn’t wish they could do that? Or even relate to that numbness?  It’s raw, real, and just the truth people don’t want to show. Even in the darkest times of the show, it’s an exaggeration for what happens in real-life and it can be appreciated that if these characters can get through the tough times anyone can. Is it heavy stuff most of the time?

Yes, but it’s the comfort show we all want and need. This is the show where you can let your emotions surface and there’s no shame in it. All of the characters are letting out what they feel. It creates an “emotastic” time for anyone. Now it’s not just all tears and darkness, there’s still laughs and loads of sexy time.

We’ve all scene the passionate Damon and Elena, also known as, “Delena,” sex and woah. Let’s  just say,  there’s no lack of heat in that fire.Truly any scene where the vampires are gettin it on, is a good time for all parties involved. Not only are we learning about our deep-seeded emotions on this show, we also learn what passionate and electric sex looks like, which I can’t say is a bad thing. Seriously though, the huge teen girl fan base who loves this show can view this and see hope.

Hope for their love life, dreams, bad decisions, and even family issues. This is more than a show, it’s a true escape. Whoever you relate to, like to see without a shirt on, or even root for in the show, they’ll always be there. Think about if any part of you wants Damon Salvatore in your life, especially shirtless, personally recommend this show. If you want to sit on your couch and binge on some ice cream and let yourself get sucked into the drama and fantasy combo, go for it. If you want a show that feels something like home, you came to the right place. Don’t worry though, you have practically forever to decide, they’re vampires remember?

Hi my names Amanda G! I'm a junior at Kutztown University and have a enormous sweet tooth. I want everyone to live and laugh. Hopefully my stories will help with that. I believe in the truth and the brighter side of life. I also believe in the power of Bagel Bar on Mainstreet, which is truly a gift. So sit back, relax, and be you at KU and in life.
