There Are A Ton Of ‘Legally Blonde’ Easter Eggs In ‘Elle’ That You Might’ve Missed

Elle is officially here, and Legally Blonde fans have plenty to look out for. While the prequel introduces viewers to a younger version of Elle Woods long before she headed off to Harvard, it also pays tribute to the iconic 2001 film with clever callbacks that are sure to be appreciated by eagle-eyed fans. From familiar fashion choices and iconic phrases to more subtle references, the Elle series is filled with Legally Blonde Easter eggs honoring the movie that started it all.

Set in 1995 — six years before the events of Legally BlondeElle follows a teenage Elle Woods as her picture-perfect life in Bel-Air is turned upside down when her family moves to Seattle. As she navigates a new high school, love, rivalries, and all the challenges that come with starting over, viewers get a glimpse of the experiences that shaped the confident and loveable Elle we know today. While the series is a whole new chapter of Elle’s story, it also includes plenty of callbacks to the original film. Here are the Legally Blonde Easter eggs in Elle that you might’ve missed.

Every Episode Title Is A Quote From Legally Blonde

One of the most noticeable Easter eggs in Elle is the episode titles themselves. Every episode aside from the pilot is named after a memorable quote from the original Legally Blonde — a few examples are “No Silly, I Go Here,” “Whoever Said Orange Is The New Pink Was Seriously Disturbed,” and “What, Like It’s Hard.” It’s a fun way to honor the 2001 film and remind viewers how connected the prequel is to the story we know and love.

The Opening Scene Mirrors The Opening Scene Of Legally Blonde

From the first few minutes of the pilot episode, Elle pays homage to the iconic opening scene of Legally Blonde. Just like the original film, viewers watch Elle getting ready while the camera follows a card with Elle’s name on it. Instead of preparing to get engaged (or not), this younger Elle is getting ready for her sweet 16 in a nostalgic parallel.

Elle’s Love of Chocolate

The pilot episode also recreates one of Legally Blonde’s most memorable moments. In the episode, Elle is lounging in a perfectly pink outfit reading an issue of Cosmopolitan (featuring a Dove Pink Beauty Bar ad and all!) when she learns that her family is moving from Bel-Air to Seattle. Devastated by the news, she naturally curls up in bed eating chocolate — a clear tribute to the original movie’s breakup scene after Warner dumps her.

Die-hard fans may notice a familiar accessory before it belonged to Elle. In Legally Blonde, Elle wore her red Bottega bag on various occasions, most iconically when she first arrived at Harvard Law School. But in Elle, the bag belongs to her mother, Eva, suggesting that one of Elle’s most recognizable accessories had a previous owner.

Bruiser Woods Gets His Origin Story

Every Legally Blonde fan knows Bruiser Woods, and Elle reveals how the beloved Chihuahua became Elle’s loyal furry friend. In the series, Bruiser is gifted to Elle as a puppy, showing how this friendship came to be. The series also references the original film’s line about Elle and Bruiser sharing the same astrological sign (Gemini vegetarian) before Eva reveals to her daughter that she’s actually a Cancer cusp.

Rainier West High School

At first glance, Rainier West High School sounds like just another name. But if you look a little closer at the initials — R.W. — you’ll notice they’re a tribute to Reese Witherspoon, who famously introduced us to Elle Woods in the original Legally Blonde.

A Social Faux Pas

If one awkward moment in Elle gives you déjà vu, that’s for a reason. In the prequel, Elle arrives embarrassingly underdressed to an event, mirroring the lawyers’ mixer in Legally Blonde where she shows up in a Playboy Bunny costume. While the circumstances are different, the callback captures the same fish-out-of-water feeling that made the original scene so memorable.

Lisa Loeb Returns to the Legally Blonde Universe

Music lovers may recognize a familiar face (or voice) during the series. Singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb makes a cameo performing her hit song “Stay (I Missed You),” creating another connection to Legally Blonde. Since Loeb was a part of the original film’s soundtrack with her song “We Could Still Belong Together,” her appearance in Elle is a fun full-circle moment that ties the Legally Blonde universe together with a perfect, pink bow.
