There are many types of Greek organizations on the UCF campus: panhellenic, inter-fraternity, divine nine, as well as service organizations, like the nursing fraternity (Phi Delta Epsilon) or the Christian ones, like Theta Alpha. Many of these organizations exist nationwide, and joining a Greek service organization is quickly becoming one of the new things to do as a college student.
Kappa Alpha Pi (KAPI) has only been on the UCF campus for a year, and as of right now, they’re only getting started. The first recruitment was held last spring, with an Alpha class of 50 members accepted and a founding board to date, and they’ve been working on connecting with other chapters nationwide and expanding their reach.
The Beta Pi chapter may be on the smaller side, but it is growing at a rapid pace. Bonus points if you are interested in government and law work, but the fraternity does accept anyone from all majors, and the GPA requirement is 3.0.
Founded in 2007 at the University of Michigan, the organization has expanded to around 70 chapters nationally, three of which are here in the state of Florida. The club is a safe space for the future lawyers, judges, and government workers that our school hosts, and membership allows you to connect with others who share similar interests, plus free attendance to all events and guest speaker seminars.
Senior Club President Sam Levin and director of communications Nicki Acosta have been working on bringing the KAPI national convention here to Orlando, which will be held at UCF’s Cape Florida Ballroom in November. Both Levin and Acosta went to the inaugural convention in Chicago and were so changed by the experience that they have been working with other chapters across the country to make the next one happen.
“The convention that we’ll have here invites mostly Gulf chapters just to kind of come for the weekend, learn about our fraternity and maybe learn about us, mingle with each other, and meet some law firms,” Levin said.
“I don’t want to make us so big to where anyone’s just a number. I don’t want to be that big because then it becomes quantity over quality. We want people around that want to have fun and are really interested in this field and want it for their future.”

Rush for KAPI at UCF will open up this fall during the second week of classes, and if you’re interested in joining, they will be out tabling around campus.
“I think because we’re newer and because I think our people are more driven, we just have more passion to grow bigger and expand our reach,” Levin said. “I think the fact that we’re doing a lot more is really what separates us.”
