The Lost Boys: A New Musical is the best show I have ever seen. It is the perfect show for everyone — an interesting mixture of genre, fresh-faced, a talented cast, a new original score, and nostalgia. Not only that, but it has some of my favorite things: hot vampires, superheroes, and a complicated and unclear romance trope. I’ve had the privilege of seeing the show twice during previews, and as the show is still being re-worked and written, it was completely different both times. Now the previews have come to a close and the show is fully open with nothing but outstanding reviews. If you are ever unsure of a show to see when visiting New York, here are seven reasons why you should see The Lost Boys Musical.

  1. The Plot is Epic

A single mother and her two sons move from Arizona to California, seemingly running from a dark past, into her deceased father’s home, only to be attracted to a new danger when her eldest son falls for a girl who introduces him to a new life of danger – that sounds amazing!

  1. Nostalgic or a Movie Lover?

The new musical is an adaptation of the 1987 cult-classic film The Lost Boys, which most likely is a movie your parents and elders would have seen. It’s a great show to see if you are traveling with older relatives, a common ground that is reimagined for both the old and new generation. If it isn’t a matter of nostalgia for you, maybe you’re just a fan of timeless and raunchy vampire media and consider yourself a movie lover just like me.

  1. The Music

When I tell you, these are some of the best Broadway songs I’ve ever heard – the songwriting from Indie-Pop group, The Rescues, are perfect in every moment, every scene. It is never overdone or too literal; it actually tells almost as much of the story as the spoken dialogue.

  1. The Talent

This goes hand-in-hand with the music. These musicians and actors in this show are phenomenal in every sense of the word. Shoshana Bean and LJ Benet are two of the greatest live performers I’ve ever seen. At the stage door when I met Shoshana Bean I even told her, “I’m campaigning for you; you will get that Tony.”

  1. Stage Design

The triple-level stage is so unique and will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. The layers within the story completely unfold in every prop, setting, and movement with help from the stage. Whether it’s full on concert pit, flying through the air, or falling through a giant, gaping hole in the floor, the set really sets this show apart.

  1. Stunts

This show has some of the most seamless and creative stunts I’ve ever seen. A large part of the show is stuntwork, but it always looks so real it feels supernatural. Before you can register how much talent it takes to sing so well and flip through the air, you’re amazed by a shooting arrow flying by.

  1. If not, you’ll regret it.

This is a show that once it’s gone, people are going to beg for it to come back. I can truly see this show staying for a long time because it is something everyone should see. It takes Broadway to a whole new level – not just in bringing the screen to the theater, but also a whole new horror-supernatural genre to the stage. I have never seen any show on this level; The Lost Boys Musical has truly raised the bar.

All that being said, I am about to purchase tickets to see the show for the third time. I am extremely excited to see the final product compared to the changes they were making during the previews when I had first seen it. One thing I am confident of is that this show is worth every penny you pay for your ticket, the cast is phenomenal and will become stars from this, and that this is my favorite Broadway show. If you were not sure what new Broadway show you wanted to see, look no further, you’re seeing The Lost Boys Musical.
