We’ve all done it before — revisited a sex scene from one of our favorite shows. It’s the scenes that take on the female gaze, the ones that are all about intimacy or fun, and all of which lay on the foundation of consent. Watching a sex scene while knowing the emotional context of a particular relationship just makes it that much better, which is why we hit replay over and over again to watch our favorite characters get it on. And, of course, some of our very favorite characters exist in Hulu original series. So make sure to renew that subscription.
From Marianne and Connell of Normal People to the fictionalized versions of real figures, like Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and even Russia’s Catherine the Great, Hulu provides all kinds of intimate scenes between characters in their TV shows. And trust me, they appeal to just about anyone.
So while you’re waiting to see if Love Story will be renewed for a second season with a new couple to follow, here are some sex scenes from Hulu original shows that you can rewatch in the meantime.
1. Normal People Season 1, Episode 2: Marianne & Connell’s First Time
In this limited series book adaptation of Sally Rooney’s 2018 novel Normal People, a lack of communication is what drives protagonists Marianne and Connell apart, but their first time having sex with each other — and Marianne’s first time overall — is all about communication and consent. We love to see it.
2. The Great Season 2, Episode 9: Catherine & Peter De-stress
In this satirical historical fiction comedy, Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult play Empress Catherine the Great of Russia and Emperor Peter III. This show came out the same year as Bridgerton, so while 2020 gave us a lot of things, it did at least give us hot historical fiction with a twinge of humor. Velcro corsets come in handy when taking one’s clothes off before sex.
3. Dying for Sex Season 1, Episode 7: Molly & Neighbor Guy in the hospital
Even if you’ve had fantasies about doing it outside the bedroom, the hospital may not have been high on your list of locations. But this scene between Michelle Williams and Rob Delaney brings Williams’s character to her climax — literally — for the first time with a partner. Out of context, it’s crazy that this happens in a hospital bed, but Dying for Sex is about a woman diagnosed with terminal cancer who leaves her husband to explore her sexuality before she dies, so it all really feels full-circle at that moment.
4. Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette Season 1, Episode 3: Carolyn Comforts John
Keeping in mind what the late couple’s nephew Jack Schlossberg has said — that Love Story is “capital ‘F’ for fiction” — this scene where John shows up unannounced at Caroline’s apartment soaked from the rain shows the kind of intimacy anyone would want with a partner.
5. High Fidelity Season 1, Episode 1: Rob Takes on a Rebound
In this series premiere, Zoë Kravitz’s character Rob hooks up with Clyde, beginning their tumultuous relationship as Rob navigates her roller coaster of a love life throughout the show. What’s great about this scene is that Rob is in charge and having a great time — even if she tries to sneak out in the morning.
