We are nearing that dreaded time of year when college students try to balance their personal lives with studying for upcoming finals. While it may be difficult to find time to unwind, giving yourself space to decompress can work wonders for your mental health in a stressful college environment. So, as I prepare to lock in for my exams, I have been putting on my favorite comfort shows to help keep my mind at ease!
Fuller House (2016)
Netflix’s Full House spin-off with the reunion of its original cast is such an easy, feel-good show to binge-watch! I have rewatched this show multiple times, and with each viewing, I find more to love. This is the show I have been watching while studying for finals, as it is great background noise. Like its predecessor, Fuller House still stays true to its family-based storylines that promote positivity and kindness, which is just what an anxious college student needs to hear while preparing for exams!
XO, Kitty (2023)
XO, Kitty is a delightful and leisurely K-drama to view if you are looking to get swept away in complicated love triangles and high school drama. The show follows Kitty Song Covey, a high school student who is studying in Seoul, Korea. Episodes range from slice-of-life content to deep-rooted family mysteries! I would say XO, Kitty is a good show to watch if you do not want anything serious. The show is quite theatrical, but still proves to be an entertaining viewing experience!
Never Have I Ever (2020)
Never Have I Ever is a show that gives off a similar vibe to XO, Kitty, but tackles deeper topics that truly make the show stand out in Netflix’s catalog. The show’s main character, Devi Vishwakumar, is a high school Indian-American student based in Los Angeles. After a traumatic freshman year, Devi and her friends work to slowly build their social status and make the most out of their high school experience while also navigating personal struggles. This show is one I have seen countless times, and I never get bored with it! Devi is such an interesting character who accurately depicts a typical teenage girl, which makes her so entertaining to watch.Â
Ginny and Georgia (2021)
If you could not already tell by the previous shows, I have a thing for romance and drama pieces. While Ginny and Georgia often get a bad reputation on social media, with its cringeworthy scenes and second-hand embarrassment moments, this show is one I often find myself rewatching over and over again. It has such an interesting storyline that tackles mommy issues while also turning into a soulful viewing experience. Overall, if you can get past the countless clips that circle the internet, you should give this show a chance during exam season.Â
Dance Monsters (2022)
Dance Monsters is an interesting take on the classic dance competition format. Instead of having its contestants perform in front of judges on a stage, they instead wear motion-capture suits that project their digital monsters on a stage to compete; the show is quite experimental, as it uses high-tech effects and animation to fully capture the dancers. If you enjoy watching The Masked Singer, then definitely give Netflix’s Dance Monsters a chance during finals. It is a great show to have on in the background as you lock in and study for exams.Â
Boo, B*tch (2022)Â
This limited series only has a few episodes, but it still delivers a great story that comes to an end in its finale. Boo, B*tch follows two high school seniors who, on one fateful night, decide to seize the moment and live their lives to the fullest, only to find out one of them turns into a ghost! Even though there are limited episodes, this show is super easy to get into, and since it is so short, it makes the perfect show to view during the hectic exam season.Â
It can be easy to get swept away into the hustle and bustle of exam season, but by taking a moment to relax and rest your brain, these shows will help you ease into finals week with confidence!
