Spring is finally here, which unlocks so many fun adventures and activities! Unfortunately, finals season is also upon us, which means that while you may want to spend your entire day outside frolicking, other responsibilities still get in the way.Â
No worries, though! I’ve assembled a list of simple ways to add a little spontaneity to your days, without monopolizing all your time either.Â
- Go to Fenway Park just for the end of the game.
-
This is honestly such a life hack because everyone knows that the best part of a Red Sox game is the music!Â
Show up to Lansdowne around the eighth inning, and hang outside the park with your friends, just close enough so you can hear Sweet Caroline and Dirty Water (although it’s probably a good idea to check the score ahead of time and make sure they are winning).Â
When the game ends, stick around to soak in the vibes, or head to Van Ness Street to meet the players as they leave.
- Give out high fives on the Esplanade.
-
Whether you’re running or walking, get yourself out of your head and make someone else’s day by trying to high-five everyone you pass! Particularly on a nice spring day, there will be plenty of peppy people willing to give or receive a boost.Â
High-fiving is a fun and spontaneous way to put yourself out there in a low-stakes environment, as you probably won’t see any of these people again. Bonus: it will take your mind off how much further you have left in your run, too!Â
- Go to a playground.
-
Honestly, why did we stop going to playgrounds? I go by the Gronk playground all the time and always wonder if I could high-five him (if you know, you know). But it wasn’t until this past weekend that my roommate and I finally stopped to visit!Â
And if Gronk isn’t speaking to you like he was to us, put on your most slippery clothing and head to the Cop Slide.
- Workout at the outdoor exercise equipment on the Esplanade and BU Beach.
-
When you are on the grind with finals, don’t make yourself choose between the gym and getting outside! While there may not be quite as many options, the Esplanade outdoor gym, less than half a mile from BU Beach, is a good option for bodyweight exercises and pullups.Â
Plus, you can admire the cherry blossoms and soak in that vitamin D. It’s also a really good way to mix up your workout routine!
I hope this list inspires you to break up the monotony of your days and adds a little whimsy to your spring!
Happy Spring!
