Midterms have passed and now it may begin to feel like everything is coming crashing in on you all at once. With just over a month until classes end, here are some tips to ensure that you finish the semester with success.
- Don’t procrastinate
-
At this point in the semester, it can be very easy to run out of steam and put work off, especially when your to-do list begins to grow. However, this is a slippery slope that will only lead to more stress as the semester wraps up. One great habit to get into is to separate your work and readings by each day you have class. Keep your homework for your Monday/Wednesday classes relegated to Mondays and Wednesdays, and so on. This gives your work sessions more structure and will help you with feeling flooded by work.
- Give yourself time to reset
-
As easy as it is to get overwhelmed with all of the work and the cramming, it is very important that you give yourself time to rest and recharge. Your brain needs that time so you don’t get overworked and begin to lose your full capacity for understanding the material. Overworking yourself does nothing to help you with exams or comprehension of the material. Exercise and sleep are hard to make time for, but are imperative for cognitive support and function.
- Reach out for help
-
Not only is this a very emotionally taxing part of the semester, but its also the point where you come to the realization that you need some more support in your classes. While this can be very intimidating and potentially something you feel embarrassed by, it is very important for your own academic success that you understand that there are many resources available for you and people are eager to help. One great resource for specific classes that you need help in is Knack tutoring. It’s paid for by UNH, so it is completely free to you. It is also led by students that have taken the same classes as you, so they will be empathetic to your situation. It’s also great for those who are too nervous to attend their professors’ office hours.
