The Viral Nina Park Makeup: How to Master the Look

If you’re a makeup enthusiast like me, you probably haven’t been able to escape the stunning red-carpet makeup looks by celebrity makeup artist Nina Park. Park has done makeup for countless stars including Charli XCX, Mia Goth, Emma Stone, and many more. But why are her looks going so viral? 

While most people associate the red carpet with heavy glam suitable for flash photography and cameras, Park’s looks are stunningly natural and always highly complementary to the natural features of whoever her client is. The looks shine on the red carpet and always appear flawless in photographs, yet somehow the makeup always looks effortless and never over the top. As said by Alexandra French, Nina Park is truly your favorite makeup artist’s favorite makeup artist. 

Lucky for us, while it may seem like some kind of sorcery, there is a science behind the madness. While, in general, the key rule with her looks seems to be less is always more, here are tips and tricks on how to achieve the Nina Park look and level up your makeup. 

Face makeup

The Nina Park skin is structured but soft, so attention to detail is important. Her clients always look hydrated and radiant, so using a glowy light-to-medium coverage foundation is the best way to go. However, as a girl with an oily skin type, I know this can be intimidating. Using a glowy primer with a soft matte foundation on top and setting powder in the center of the face, leaving the highpoints glowy, will also achieve a similar effect. 

When it comes to blush and bronzer, her looks never have any harsh lines, so when applying be sure to start with minimal product and build up as you go. Also, the blush colors are often subtle, so, when in doubt, a beige or more muted blush tone would be the best for achieving the look.

Nina Park’s eye makeup is never overly bold, but small details are added to give the eye shape. There is often minimal color on the lids, with a neutral or cool-toned brown in the crease to add shape. However, she often elevates the look by tight-lining the eye and adding a subtler liner and wing. Lastly, she often adds a slightly darker color on the inner corner, emphasizing the eye shape, and tying it all together. The techniques she uses on her eyes are subtle but impactful, leaving a sultry effect.

Last, but certainly not least, the Nina Park lip. This is probably the most iconic component of her look, which everyone has been trying to achieve. The part that makes it so unique is the blurred lip line, which adds fullness without being too obvious. She typically achieves this using a thicker lip liner in a neutral or cool-toned brown in order to contour the lip rather than line it, allowing for a more natural appearance. Utilizing a thicker liner allows for a less precise line, but this can also be achieved by smudging a regular lip liner. She then fills in the lip with a brighter pink color that contrasts with the neutral contour. This leaves the lips looking flushed and full in the least obvious way possible.
