Who wouldn’t like to spend some time watching a fun movie or TV show while also learning more about something that we all like – money! There are so many entertainment options out there that make the complex concept of money and finances easy to understand. To help us all out, I have selected four options for you to enjoy on your next movie night!

Air (2023)

This movie talks about the partnership between Nike and Michael Jordan to create the basketball shoe-line: Air Jordan. Air is about all the challenges they faced when creating a line that changed sneaker culture and made a lasting impact.

Upon release, Air received many mixed reviews, however, I personally think that it perfectly portrays the challenges that come along with partnerships in the sports industry. Interested in learning how popular trends came to be? This movie is the perfect example of creating a successful culture that has become an everyday staple for many!

Main topics:

  • Negotiation
  • A highly profitable product line
  • Risk taking

Dumb money (2023)

This film tells the story of a man who risks everything in the stock market and leads a movement of investors who, through the power of community, challenge funds on Wall Street.

This movie is the perfect blend of comedy and drama, but it touches on important aspects of the challenges that come with investing. In this new era of investments and involvement in the stock market, watching this movie is sure to be both educational and relatable to modern times!

Main topics:

  • Market regulations
  • The power of social media
  • Retail investments

Scam 1992 (2020)

Scam 1992 is a T.V show that follows the rise and fall of stockbroker Harshad Mehta, who manipulated the stock markets for personal benefits. This T.V show is based on a true, impactful, and ambitious story full of challenges.

I personally believe that this has to be one of the best money-related shows ever. Scam 1991 does a great job showing how the stock market operates in real life.

Seriously, who knew that learning about the stock market could be this entertaining?

Main topics:

  • Stock market
  • Bank fraud

Blackberry (2023)

BlackBerry is a movie about two business partners who created the world’s first smartphone. Sounds familiar? BlackBerry phones were a STAPLE from 1999 to 2011 when they unfortunately declined in popularity.

The movie is based on a truly story and follows the journey of two business partners and the impacts they’ve made on the smartphone industry.

Some of us might remember BlackBerry smartphones but not know the story behind them. This movie not just explains the establishment of the BlackBerry phones, it also walks us through the ups and downs of the iconic BlackBerry company.

Main topics:

  • Startup growth
  • Partnership dynamics
  • Business strategies

Why is it worth watching these movies and shows?

Money is a broad idea that includes many crucial lessons to serve different purposes. Watching movies or T.V shows about money helps people understand economic ideas better, educate people about financial literacy, and teach people how to apply these concepts in real life.

As current college students and future professionals, we need to stay updated on economic and financial topics. Many of us are just starting to invest and save, therefore, knowing how money, the economy, and markets work can guide us in making better decisions down the line. Additionally, the movies and T.V shows listed above are all interesting, engaging, and totally fun!

I (highly) recommend checking all of these out!
