7 Trends To Add to Your December Closet

When living in Florida, it can feel impossible to put together a cute outfit in the summer. No matter what you wear, you’ll be hot and sweaty after a couple of minutes. This is exactly why December is my favorite month to plan outfits for. The colder weather means you can accessorize as much as your heart desires, and, since it’s still Florida, it’s never too cold to dress up. Even if you’re in a colder climate, there are tons of trends you can use to revitalize your winter wardrobe.

Ballet Flats

Shoes can make or break your look. You can spend hours curating the perfect outfit just for it to be ruined by an old pair of sneakers. Boots are a classic choice in the winter (for good reason), but if you’re going for a different vibe, consider a pair of ballet flats. Ballet flats are a great way to dress up an outfit while still staying comfy. You could go for some original light pink flats or a sporty pair like the new PUMA Speedcat Ballet sneakers. This shoe’s rising popularity means you’re sure to find a pair that matches your style.

Colored Tights

Usually, tights are black or match your skin tone; however, people are starting to have fun with them. Colored tights are a great way to add a bit of personality to an otherwise ordinary outfit. You can match your tights to a hat, bag, or top for a sense of cohesiveness. Let the tights be the star of the show by styling them with an all-black outfit. Patterns and textures are also fun to play with; polka-dots, checkerboards, or lace tights are always very cute and whimsical.

Deer Print

Deer print has exploded this year, as it’s a perfect way to create a soft yet interesting look. Animal prints have been a staple in fashion forever, but it’s usually cheetah, leopard, and zebra taking turns in the spotlight. However, having a new animal print is exciting and innovative. Deer print is very versatile; it can give toasted marshmallow or deep brown. It can be chic or country, fitting any niche you need it to.

Polka Dots

Polka dots are so deserving of the limelight. They’ve been passed over for flowers in the ’60s, colorblock in the ’80s, galaxy print and chevron in the 2010s, and bows and stars in the early 2020s.

Nature has been hinting at this trend since the beginning of time. There are polka dots everywhere; ladybugs, mushrooms, cheetahs, horses, and moths all naturally display beautiful patterns that you can take inspiration from. You can choose timeless color combinations like black and white or black and red, making them unique with size and placement. You could also tailor them to your style by playing with fun color combinations.

Unique Color Combinations

2025 has seen the rise in unique color combos. A lot of people have ditched black and white for red, purples, and yellows. The main idea is that all colors can match if you style them right. Some are more intuitive than others; more people would put pink and red together than blue and brown, yet they both work equally well. I also think complementary colors are interesting. For instance, you wouldn’t think yellow and purple belong together, but if you choose the right shades, they can create a visually compelling outfit.

Patterned Scarves

Scarves are an extremely underrated accessory. As a Floridian, I’m not a scarf expert; however, I love seeing girls wear colorful scarves to brighten an otherwise drab season. Patterns on scarves, like stripes and squares, can be an easy way to incorporate an eye-catching element into your black puffer jacket and snow pants.

Wrap Tops

Ending with the same ballet theme we started with, wrap tops are a great layering item for winter. While not warm enough to wear when braving the cold outdoors, they’re a comfy base layer and perfect to wear when lounging inside. The silhouette of a wrap top is an easy way to add interest without sacrificing comfort and warmth.

From ballet-inspired flats and wrap tops to unique patterns and color combinations, there are so many new styles to try this season. I’ve loved seeing these trends develop, and I’m so excited to see more of them this winter!
