Romanticizing Halloween in my 20s

There’s a common misconception that Halloween is only for kids. It’s surrounded by candy and dressing up. Therefore, it is clear that only kids should be trick-or-treating and be able to have all the fun associated with Halloween. In reality, there should still be some fun and nostalgia behind Halloween.

Obviously, I’m not going to be knocking and going around trick-or-treating, but I should still be able to have fun during the holiday season. For the first time since I last went trick-or-treating, let’s say ten years ago (before I thought it was too childish to dress up and go trick-or-treating), I’ve been enjoying October and trying to celebrate Halloween. Back then, there was this big suspension for the big day, October 31st, but now I get to celebrate all month long.

Who Says Halloween Should Only Last One Day?

Before October, I started planning Halloween activities. That first weekend, I had a fun get-together with my friends for Halloween, and we all dressed up. Excitement built as we planned a group costume and waited until that day to see what it would look like all together. Being able to purchase decorations and decorate was so much fun because there are so many possibilities, and it doesn’t have to look perfect, especially since it’s Halloween.

There’s more excitement in Halloween costumes in college because you get to pick what you want to be and get to choose perfect pieces together. When I was younger, my parents bought me ready-made costumes for me to dress as my favorite characters. However, I think it’s more fun to put the pieces together, especially when you can pick them out from your closet.

Having a small gathering with your friends is when it really becomes fun. By coming together and making Halloween snacks, you add a fun twist to regular snacks. Putting on a scary movie will really set the tone. It’s a fun way to get into the spooky spirit. This gathering doesn’t even have to be something big; just having the excitement of dressing up in cute outfits and enjoying spooky snacks revives the Halloween nostalgia.

The proper way to make Halloween fun is to do activities with friends. It’s been so fun having roommates who share the love and excitement for Halloween. Getting together and coming up with fun group costumes makes the excitement even greater.
