The Rise of the Fun Girl: Why Life Feels Better When You Stop Overthinking

A new age known as the “Fun Girl Era” has just taken over TikTok and campuses alike. She isn’t concerned with following a five-year plan or creating the ideal look. It is she who agrees to late-night dessert trips, laughs excessively in the library, and romanticizes even the most trivial aspects of her day. And in all honesty? We all have the right to be her.

You don’t have to miss every class or neglect your obligations to be a Fun Girl (don’t worry, your GPA is secure). It’s more about changing your viewpoint so that ordinary experiences feel more like chances to truly live and less like things to cross off a list. To find your inner Fun Girl, follow these steps:

1. Make little things into large things

The Fun Girl is always looking for a reason to rejoice. Have you finished your homework? That is deserving of a Starbucks. Have you survived a demanding week? It sounds like a night for karaoke. Every day has a little shine because she views the ordinary as wonderful. You’re halfway there if you’ve ever gotten so worked up over simply bringing out the garbage on time.

2. Accept the moment

Fun Girls are open but not careless. The Fun Girl doesn’t overthink it when someone texts, “Want to go thrifting in 10?” she goes. She will be the first in line for any free pizza on the quad. She is aware that memories are more often created by embracing spontaneity than by adhering to strict routines.

3. Make your life more romantic

Have you ever noticed how a Fun Girl can make the walk to class seem like a scene from a movie? This is a result of her unafraidness to create her own mood, complete with a fun soundtrack, a cute outfit, and iced coffee. She isn’t waiting for someone else to add excitement to her life. She is always the primary character.

4. Balance is still important

The catch is that Fun Girls are also aware of when to slow down. Choosing delight in ways that truly feel good is what it means to be enjoyable, not burning out. Face masks, DoorDash, and watching her comfort show are the Fun Girl’s ideas of fun on some nights. Fun is not so much an activity as it is a way of thinking.

5. Disperse the vitality

Contagiousness is the finest thing about the Fun Girl attitude. People can sense when you’re beaming and carefree. Strangers grin back, friends want to participate, and all of a sudden you’re a part of a joyful chain reaction.

Not letting perfectionism ruin your college experience is ultimately what it means to be a Fun Girl. It’s recognizing that life is happening right now, not when you’ve “figured everything out,” when your hair finally grows out, or after you land the internship.

The fun part, if you allow it, is right now. So harness her energy this week. Wear the glittery top for no other reason, text that friend to hang out, or order the extra side of fries. You just need to give the Fun Girl the microphone. She’s already inside you.
