With this year wrapping up, the winter holiday season has made itself at home! Ever since I was a kid, I’ve absolutely loved this time of year, especially because of the abundance of holiday festivities to help celebrate. I consistently have enjoyed activities from baking cookies to visiting the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C. My all time favorite thing to do has always been cozying up by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate and watching a holiday movie.
The combination of the many holiday movies that already exist, on top of the ones that come out every year, can make it a struggle to choose which one to watch. I even struggle to choose sometimes! However, in order to help alleviate that stress, here are a few of my top holiday favorites to help you get started with celebrating the holiday season!
A Christmas Prince
This one is an all-time favorite! It perfectly blends fiction with real-life scenarios and romance, along with a sprinkle of humor. A journalist is sent to the country of Aldovia to find information about the royal family, specifically the prince, in order to write an article about them. However, the journalist ends up finding love instead. This movie perfectly balances the famous holiday movie cheesiness and the heart-warming magical effects of Christmas!
Good Luck Charlie: It’s Christmas!
This is one of my go-to films when I’m with my family. The movie is a Christmas spinoff from the Disney Channel show “Good Luck Charlie,” and it’s wonderfully nostalgic! I personally grew up watching “Good Luck Charlie” with my brother and it’s such a throwback when I throw this movie on to watch. The Duncan family is traveling to Palm Springs, but two members of the family separate from the rest and end up taking the extremely long way there, which comes along with lots of bumps down the road. It perfectly encapsulates the chaotic-ness of the holiday season with touches of humor, and is filled with lots of fun action!
While You Were Sleeping
A classic! This movie is one that I always turn on with my friends. The plot is something that I find so unique, and is executed perfectly with hints of humor, romance, and holiday spirit! A transit worker pulls a longtime crush out of the way from the path of an oncoming train, causing him to fall into a coma. His family misunderstands the transit worker’s explanation of the accident and believes that she is his current fiancée. This movie is great to watch by yourself or with friends or family!
Home Alone
An absolute classic! I first watched this movie when I was super young with my family. In fact, I think this was one of the first holiday movies I’ve watched, explaining why it holds a special place in my heart! An eight-year-old boy is mistakenly left behind before a family trip and is left to thwart the plans of two robbers planning to rob his family’s house. This movie contains a bunch of humor and is filled with heartwarming moments, completed with a lot of holiday spirit!
Although this isn’t all of my favorite holiday movies, this list contains a few of my top favorites to watch during the holiday season! So, grab a cup of hot chocolate and let the binging begin!
