Have you noticed the sky lately? In the mornings, it is as though we are living in the clouds, as though the sky has descended down and has engulfed our roads. It is the humidity of the sky that has lowered into our tangible realm. In the afternoons, it is oppressive. The sun is hotter, the surroundings saturated and the roads are clearer but my skin is drenched. The walk from the resident halls to the academic building is not pleasant. It is tedious. It is tedious because of an entity millions of miles away. In the evenings, the sky is coloured. The sky is dressed and waving goodbye with the flamboyance of the sunset and walking on the earthly ground it still maintains my attention. Come nighttime and the sky is still, the gray clouds camouflage and without the light of the sun the sky is invisible. That is when I close my eyes, to rest them for the sky tomorrow.
What is it about something that is so far away that dictates my feelings? If the sky is having a gloomy day, I probably am as well. If the sun is angry with me, I walk speedily into the shade. If the sky is dancing for me in her new colors, I watch every second of it. If the clouds pour down on me, I accept that fate. It has crossed my mind multiple times that these are things I have never touched, but it reaches me nevertheless. There is an incomprehensible distance between the sky and I but it is important in deciding things about my life. If I want to go out and about the sky, I will decide what I wear, what I feel like eating and if I should or should not carry an umbrella.
The only form of communication between us is the weather forecast and even that is a poor mediator because the sky you see is whimsical, and now even almost unpredictable.
For providing heat, rain, the moon and stars and perhaps 100 other celestial objects I cannot see. I am in love with the sky, but she has a power over me I will never fathom nor try to reciprocate. It is an unequal relationship, and she probably does not know I love her. She probably never will.
