Have you ever heard the phrase, “You can’t have your cake and eat it too?” Well, thanks to rap icon, Ice Spice, you can now have your munchkins and drink them too.
Dunkin Donuts (Dunkin), known for fueling Americans with caffeine and donuts, recently collaborated with Ice Spice and made a rather controversial drink: the Ice Spice MUNCHKINS® Drink. The drink, which was released on Sept. 13, 2023, is made up of pumpkin flavored munchkins which are blended with coffee and ice to create a frozen, pumpkin flavored coffee topped with whipped cream, caramel drizzle and cinnamon sugar (Yasharoff, 2023).
The drink was welcomed with mainly open arms as the public was excited to see a new Dunkin “collab” with another well-liked celebrity. Dunkin has previously collaborated with sports teams, such as the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Eagles, and other celebrities, like Ben Affleck and Charli D’Amelio, to create delicious donuts and drinks for all to enjoy.
The Ice Spice MUNCHKINS® Drink caused a bit of controversy, however, due to its high calorie count, allusive ingredient list and interesting taste. Many people enjoyed the sweet, donut taste, while many others did not.
“I thought it was delicious,” said Jason Smith, a frequent flier at Dunkin. “It made my heart feel warm to see a drink created by my favorite rapper.”
“The idea was creative but executed poorly,” said Emma Clark, first-year student at Hofstra University and coffee connoisseur. “The munchkins should’ve been the sweetener rather than the drink having extra sweetener added. The drink was too sweet and the texture was odd.”
