Itâs a big day for teenage girls in their twenties (me) because Speak Now (Taylorâs Version) dropped at midnight on July 7, and lives have already been changed. How are we holding up? Personally, I feel wrecked, along with everyone else on Twitter, or should I say Threads?Â
I prepared myself as best I could, but after I heard the snippets of âBack To Decemberâ in âTSITPâ season two clips, I knew I was done for. It seems someone else has also been preparing themselves, an (un)popular man among Swifites: John Mayer.Â
ICYMI, Mayer and Swift had a brief romance back when she was 19 and he was 32 (yikes). Swifties have never been a fan of Mayer as the age difference was a little alarming. But, Mayer did inspire Taylor to write âDear Johnâ which she describes as her most scathing song.Â
In the midst of the Speak Now (Taylorâs Version) drop, Mayer posted a little reminder about kindness, which many Swifites felt was aimed at them.
During Blondieâs show in Minneapolis on June 24, before she started singing âDear Johnâ she took some time to encourage fans to act with kindness online once Speak Now (Taylorâs Version) was released.
âI get to stand on the stage every single night of this tour and watch the most beautiful things happen. Like, I watch you guys make friends with each other,â she said. âSo I was hoping to ask you that as we lead up to this album coming out. I would love for that kindness and gentleness to extend onto our internet activities.â
âIâm 33 years old, I donât care about anything that happened to me when I was 19 except the songs I wrote and the memories we made together. So what Iâm trying to tell you is that Iâm not putting this album out so that you could go and, like, feel the need to defend me on the internet against someone you think I might have written a song about 14 billion years ago,â Swift added.
Swifites cheered but itâs Speak Now (Taylorâs Version) release day and Twitter is popping.Â
Some fans are trying to be kind.
While others⊠not so much.
Most Swifites are just freaking TF out.Â
