I used to believe that the world of fashion only existed in far-off places; the urban jungle of New York, the electricity of Tokyo, or the old-world sophistication of Milan. It took me a while to realize that fashion is something that we incorporate into our daily lives, and while I might not be able to pull off every trend all at once, experimenting with fashion is actually very fun. It is, after all, a primary form of self-expression. Starting this Fashion Forecast column is a way for me to express my own creativity through both writing and the fashion trends I explore. Is this all just an excuse for me to go out and buy myself new clothes? Maybe. Here is the fashion forecast for April!

In the past year, fashion trends from the 90’s have made a huge reappearance on runways. Spring 2018 fashion continues the trend of taking inspiration from other eras, with April specifically combining simple outfits with mod, colorful accents reminiscent of the 60’s. This keeps the majority of your outfit versatile, whether it be business casual or for a night out, and letting the accessories steal the show.

The world of fashion is volatile and ever-changing, just like the weather in April. One minute it could be pouring rain and the next it could be sunny and 75 degrees. No matter the weather, your day is sure to brighten up the moment you take these sunnies with you on your next outing. These sunglasses channel the 60’s in all the right ways, and they’re just plain fun to wear. Yellow has been the breakout color for the spring season, but if you choose the pink pair, you’ll literally (and figuratively) see the world through rose-colored glasses. Whether they’re on your face, your head, or hanging from your shirt, they’ll add just the right amount of color to your outfit.

A classic t-shirt with a twist is the perfect way to keep your outfit casual, yet expressive. The shirt is mostly white, which keeps my options open as far as accessories and jackets go, but the color and design on the front tie the whole outfit together. Spring means a shift into lighter warm tones, so the gentle orange in the design accomplishes that and pairs well with both of the sunglasses. The design itself plays into the mod theme through the incorporation of light dots throughout the wording. Also, I just really want some sunlight and maybe wearing this shirt will help me get some.

To close out this article, a style icon once said “Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design, and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be.” That fashion icon may have been Blair Waldorf, and I may have heard this quote while I was watching an episode of Gossip Girl at fifteen years old. Regardless, it stuck with me. Don’t be afraid to try new trends, you might learn more about yourself in the process. See you next month!
