5 Ways to Screw the Flu

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UH chapter.

Make this flu season your b*tch! Here are 5 easy ways that you can stay healthy on campus, and keep those germs at bay.

1. Wash your hands.

Use loads of soap and warm water, and rap a verse or two of Drake. You should also be washing your hands before meals, and any time you sneeze or cough into them. No easy way to sneak to the bathroom? Carry around some mini hand sanitizers. I’m obsessed with those delicious smelling ones from Bath and Body Works!

2. Stay hydrated.

Don’t be thirsty, ladies! Nothing washes away germs better than 8-10 glasses of water a day! The people on campus who lug around gallons of water have the right idea. Those are some hydrated people. If you’re like me and prefer smaller water bottles, UH has those awesome water bottle refill stations so you can always top off when your bottle is running low.

3. Get enough sleep.

It’s so hard when the semester is drawing to a close, and your procrastination levels are getting worse by the second, but nothing is better for you than sleep! Make sure to get at least 8 hours of shut eye; and if you can’t, take a nap! They’re perfect for a quick siesta before class!

4. Exercise.

There are two reasons for this. First, exercise reduces that horrible mid-semester stress that can make you more susceptible to illness. Secondly, moderate exercise can actually rid your body of toxins and boost your immunity. So quit putting off that stop at the Rec! Pop in there for a group fitness class or a sesh on the elliptical in between classes!

5. Get your flu shot.

This is so important when you’re on a busy campus that is bustling with probably thousands of people who are sick (ew). You can get these done at any drug store in your area, or at the Medical Center here at UH! They only charge around $25 dollars, and it’s so convenient for students! Don’t put it off, and go there ASAP!
