21 Questions You’ll Probably Have When You Turn 21

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Turning 21 has become an important rite of passage in our culture. Although turning the big 2-1 comes with advantages (can anyone say bottoms up?), it’s also the year that you’re probably a junior or senior in college. What comes after turning 21 is a seemingly endless list of questions that may scare you, thrill you or remind you how old you’re getting, such as…

  1. Who decided it was a good idea to give me unlimited access to alcohol?
  2. What am I going to do with my life?
  3. Am I really ready to be an adult?
  4. Why did no one warn me that hangovers get harder to shake off?
  5. Why am I suddenly disinterested in everything related to school?
  6. Why is real life so hard?
  7. Who’s going to hire me?
  8. When is Spring Break happening?
  9. Why am I being carded? I’m 21!
  10. Where are all the mature guys in this town?
  11. Should I let my friends borrow my ID?
  12. What should my favorite drink be?
  13. Am I doing what I love?
  14. Why do I always feel so tired?
  15. Is it still okay for me to watch Disney Channel?
  16. Where did all these bills come from?
  17. Graduation? What graduation?
  18. Where did the time go?
  19. What if my future plans don’t pan out?
  20. What if I don’t get hired anywhere?
  21. Can I just enjoy life?

Turning 21 brings with it a whole new set of opportunities and worries, but it shouldn’t deter you from experiencing life to the fullest. You’re one year into the second decade of your life. Don’t spoil it by overthinking, over-planning or doubting yourself. Enjoy the time you have left in school. Hang out with your friends, and let life lead you to your destiny.
