5 Things to do on Christmas Day When you get Bored

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

Christmas morning is always so fun, no matter how old you are. You get to wake up early, open presents, and watch your family and friends open whatever you got for them. It’s very exciting, but every year we seem to end up with the same problem. What do you do next? There’s always an awkward space between breakfast and dinner when we’re never too sure what to do. So, if you have the same problem as us, here are a few ideas!

1. Go See a Movie

I used to laugh at people who did this, but Christmas day is actually the busiest day of the year for movie theatres. It’s a great opportunity to get your family out of the house and doing something together, while not having to try too hard or travel too far. It’s also one of the few establishments open on Christmas day, so you may not have many other options.

2. Craft

This is a great thing to do if you’ve got young kids you’re trying to keep busy, or if you just feel like doing something as a group. You can chat and have a few drinks, while still keeping yourselves busy. Click here to see our favourite Christmas crafts.

3. Bake

This is another great way to keep yourself busy, plus you’ll get some yummy treats out of it at the end. You can bake your favorite treat, or make things to bring to your family and friends who are celebrating at their own homes. This gives you an excuse to see more of the people you love on Christmas day, and they’ll appreciate some freshly baked goodies! Check out our favorite Christmas cookie recipes here.

4. Go to Butchart Gardens

The gardens are open from 1-9 on Christmas day this year, and it’s a great time to check out the beautiful lights and fun displays! There’s an outdoor skating rink, a carousel, and a delicious restaurant if you want to go for lunch.

5. Go for a Walk

Take a walk or drive downtown just before sun set. You can hang out by the water while it’s still light out, then enjoy the beautiful lights and decorations once it gets dark! You can even stop by Starbucks, which is open from 10-5 on Christmas day. It’s a lot easier to enjoy the chilly city with a warm drink.
