5 Best Walking Trails in Dallas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

Spring is in full swing, and with summer not far behind, it’s time to take advantage of the beautiful weather outside. Luckily, there’s more than one way to do that in the Big D. Here are the top five best walking/hiking trails in the city:

1. The Katy Trail

The Katy Trail is not only the best urban trail in the city, it’s also a great spot to socialize and get your brunch on. The best part about the trail is that it features separate paths for the different types of trail-goers. Be sure to visit the Katy Trail Ice House while you’re there – it’s a staple spot on the trail and is also a prime spot for people-watching. Check out The Katy Trail’s website for more info.

2. Arbor Hills Nature Center

Arbor Hills has something for just about everyone – from paved trails for bikers and runners, to dirt loops for mountain bikers, and even several trails for hikers. It’s also a beautiful place to be, showcasing many natural hotspots in the city. Check out the city of Plano’s website for more info.

3. White Rock Lake

If being by water gets your heart pumping, you need to visit White Rock Lake. It’s the best spot for people watching, and it’s also a beautiful spot to get a picnic going during the nice weather. One loop around is just over nine miles, and it’s a path so beautiful that you will never get bored. Find out more by visiting the Dallas Parks website.

4. Oak Cliff Nature Preserve

With more than eight miles of trails, Oak Cliff Nature Preserve is the top spot to go to if you want a unique trail experience. While it is a more biker-friendly experience, it can also serve as a challenging workout for hikers. Check out the Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association’s website for more info.

5. Flagpole Hill

This trail is known to be a top spot for hill training, but it’s also a great spot to meet with a group for an intense workout. Check out White Rock’s website for more info.
